Reincarnated With The Van Helsing System

Chapter 662 - 662: The place where all the truths lie (part 2)

Contrary to one would expect, despite the restrictions in one’s capacity to use mana, battle aura and the like, which is probably related to those black chains that passed through the walls of the space tunnel, Daimon calmly floated through it without showing any sign of discomfort.

Why you ask, well, first and formal, his fatigue was recovering at a faster ratio than usual, and that is a lot to say since Daimon’s recovering capacities are already insanely good, in question of minutes he was back to his prime, when it would have taken at least a couple of hours of actual rest, considering the high toll that using his manifestation put on his body.

And soon he was back to his perfect state, to the point that it didn’t feel as if he has used both Core Synchrony and his manifestation today, even though that was the case, what’s more the cooldown of “Sanctuary” was actually reset.

‘That’s new, perhaps since I obtained it due to the oath of the Dracolevia lineage and this place is under the influence of the Megalodon, I received this unexpected benefit, Ophelia had an incredibly rare ability to prevent death and she was the youngest and weakest among the royals that led the side from the Northern Sea’, thought Daimon.

Just like the nobles among nethereals have innate abilities exclusive to their royalty, the same seems to apply to those from the Northern Sea, that’s how Daimon obtained “Ruler of the Sea”, while Ophelia lent him one of her innate abilities “Royal Grace”.

So, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to think that the Megalodon, which was the equivalent of Byron on the side of the Northern Sea’s army, in other words the one that led the group that arrived at Neptune, had an ability that empowered the abilities of his fellow royals, after all even if it was mutual destruction, the nethereals ultimately lost that battle as far as Daimon understand.

Speaking of that, though Daimon kind of wanted to take a peek at the memories from the three lords contained in the memory orbs that were resting in his inventory, he decided to wait until he has reunited with Aisha to watch the backstory of Neptune with her, so for now he simply advanced at a normal speed through the space tunnel

The journey was shorter than expected, not even an hour after he entered, Daimon could see an exit ahead of him, though the access to his mana and battle aura was restricted, nothing prevented Daimon from taking things out of the inventory, and so before crossing the exit to leave the space tunnel, he took out Disaster, though since mana was restricted, he kept it in its original form instead of changing it into Gram.

‘Do you think there will be more things to break, Daimon!’, excitedly asked the sword girl, who was still happy after having shattered Byron’s great sword.

‘Yeah, I’m pretty sure Ereth has a replacement for the Trident of the Storm he lost back then, and there is Marcus’s treasure too, not to mention whatever Arlion has received from the White’s ancestor as well, I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun’, he answered which made Narasha happily nod in response.

‘Mm~’, she was already imagining herself shattering a whole bunch of strong magic weapons, it would be even better if they were Promise level ones, after all she originally thought of destroying the poor Trident of the Storm, had it not been because she had Adam’s sword to vent out her anger, and because Daimon didn’t seem to be interested in using it himself, the trident would have met a similar end.

Leaving Nasha’s cute reactions aside, Daimon who passed through the portal at the end of the dimensional tunnel and directly landed on a solid ground, couldn’t help but frown after a couple of seconds of observation.

Not only was the soil on the ground completely black colored, but so was the sky, it wasn’t night time, because there weren’t even stars, though there was a source of light floating high into the vast empty black sky, a red sun to be more accurate.

Besides that, it’s worth noticing that Daimon didn’t see even the slightest trace of plants or living beings in the vicinity, in fact besides the black soil, the only thing that could be seen were some rock formations of many sizes, that protruded from the ground.

Or at least that’s what Daimon believed until he approached the nearest one, it was a spike shaped rock that raised a few meters above ground level.

“This is… a bone?”, mumbled Daimon as he knocked on the thing with the back of his hand a couple of times, it was covered with a thin layer of that black soil, which is why it looked like a rock, but the sound and feeling it gave were undoubtedly that of a bone.

“It’s definitely the bone of a magic beast, the problem is that I don’t know which bone is it, also its size is massive”, even without using any mana, Daimon’s senses are as sharp as ever.

The vibrations caused by Daimon knocking on the bone, travelled way too deep into the ground, Daimon actually lost track of the vibrations, before they ended, so we are talking about a bone that is many hundreds of meters large, since without mana a couple of hundreds of meters is the limit of Daimon’s detection capacities.

‘Don’t tell me every damn rock formation is a bone, should I use the infinity eyes to look at what is buried into the ground…’, thought Daimon, only to feel the black sea emblem shaking in his pocket, as if telling him to not cheat.

“Fine, fine, I won’t use it, but shouldn’t you explain what this challenge is about?”, said Daimon as he shrugged, unfortunately the black sea emblem didn’t give him any response, which made Daimon wonder if he should threaten it with handing it over to Sarah like before.

But considering the crazy girl also used the black sea emblem for her naughty schemes, he discarded the idea almost immediately, not fast enough for the black sea emblem to not shiver as if being reminded of a traumatizing experience though.

Apparently just the thought of being handed over to the crazy girl, was enough for the black sea emblem to peek out of Daimon’s pocket and point in a certain direction, as if appealing to him by giving him a hint, before returning to his pocket.

While chuckling at the black sea emblem’s reaction, Daimon looked in the direction where the black sea emblem pointed at a moment ago, there was a mountain chain there, well, now Daimon knew those were probably all bones that protruded from the ground.

“Ah, of course it can’t be the easy to traverse flat land”, said Daimon as he sighed, without mana or battle aura he couldn’t use Blink or a movement martial art, so he will have to do it the good old way, with pure physical technique, and some of those mountains couldn’t be avoided, which means Daimon will have to climb here and there.

Anyway, since his black sea emblem even went out of its way to give him this hint, there must be a good reason to take the hardest out of the available routes, so Daimon started walking right away.

The minutes went on and Daimon finally reached the foot of the first mountain which he couldn’t avoid, unless he wanted to take huge detour of course, surprisingly even after having walked a few kilometers, Daimon not only didn’t feel any sign of tiredness, but he actually felt more rested than before.

“Well, it works for the better anyway”, Daimon who was shrugging at the unclear rules of the challenge, since it seemed to benefit him anyway, started climbing the mountain, there were some protruding parts that could work as a road upwards, but there were some missing parts which probably had broken off the face of the mountain due to the erosion of the years.

Having reached one of such dead ends, Daimon proposed himself to jump upwards in order to reach another protruding road a couple of meters above where he was standing, when he suddenly lost his balance and the next thing he knew is that he was about to clash against a part of the mountain that was… fifty or so meters above where he was a second ago.

“Boooom!”, a thunderous sound echoed through the vicinity as Daimon crashed against the mountain, breaking a part of the layer of black soil which was covering the giant bone below of it, causing a small-scale landslide.

“Are you okay, Daimon?”, asked Narasha, Disaster was hanging from Daimon’s belt since he was using his hands to climb, so the sword girl who was resting inside Disaster, suddenly felt everything shaking due to the impact.

“Yes, the mountain was the one that suffered the most”, said Daimon as he dusted off his clothes, he wasn’t joking, the previous clash resulted in a part of the black soil which conformed a face of the mountain to shatter and fall apart, and that happened when Daimon’s bare body without any extra reinforcement, charged at it.

What’s more important is how come he suddenly traversed such a large distance, when he clearly was simply thinking of jumping a couple of meters, it’s not like he couldn’t do it if he put his back into it, after all only mana, battle aura, vitality and other energies were limited, he still had his monstrous body, so with just physical strength jumping a few dozens of meters was not a problem.

However, he will tire himself easily without any source of energy to back up the high consumption of endurance that came with said monstrous body, and there were more mountains ahead of him, which is he why he was climbing instead of moving by taking big leaps through the face of the mountain.

Slowly this time, Daimon tried to jump and as he expected, his body was propelled into the air, traversing a couple of dozens of meters before it was time to land again.

However, this time Daimon was prepared, he tensed his left hand where his nails had turned into curved black inked claws, to then use them as a hook by thrusting his hand into the mountain.

“Crack!”, a few cracks appeared on the black soil that covered the mountain, but this time Daimon managed to lessen the impact, also he didn’t lose control and end up covered in dirt like earlier.

‘This does bring back some memories’, thought Daimon, he was reminded of his training days with Aura, that battle maniac master of his, trained by placing seals on herself to then enter the wilderness.

Daimon has seen her jump mountains that were hundreds of meters tall, crossing rivers whose fierce currents could cut steel and even fight Arch ranked magic beasts without any mana reinforcement, nor any magic treasures, despite she being a mage instead of a knight.

And that was the goal she had set up for Daimon, of course that’s because she knew his body was especially tough, just like the one she had developed thanks to being a variant and he could handle such a hellish kind of training.

“Mmm, Aura used that hellish training to stimulate her werewolf lineage, basically forcing it to develop beyond the usual high vitality and strong affinities, that’s why she is so strong even without using any mana, it sounds simple but before me and Arianna, there hasn’t been a single member of the Argent family that was able to endure even the early stages of her training regime”.

This place seemed to allow one to draw out the power of their lineage, something similar happened in Draim, where it was incredibly easy to manifest one’s lineage to suppress others, something Daimon hadn’t managed to do without using Overlord’s Pride before, and it returned to be that way after he left.

The problem is that he who has many lineages, can feel that it would count as “cheating” if he used their traits, just taking out his claws was close to breaking the rules of the challenge for example, and he doesn’t have a manticore’s lineage, it’s just a physical change he obtained through it, luckily they were counted as just modified nails, so long as he didn’t use the poison skill that came with them.

“Perhaps there are conditions to be met, my state seems to be improving with each second that passes, so time spent in this place is probably one of them, I guess I’ll find out once I cross this damn mountain chain”, concluded Daimon to then focus on the task at hand.

Fortunately, now that he has more or less found out what was going on, he could use it for his benefit, as in he started leaping through the face of the mountain, using the protruding parts as stepping stones, while using his claws as support when it was needed.

With that technique, it only took Daimon a couple of hours to climb and let a few mountains behind of him, it was until the fourth mountain that something else besides rock formations and black soil appeared within Daimon’s sight.

“Roar!”, a loud roar followed by a yellow flash blinking into the distance at the other side of the next mountain which was a few kilometers away, drew Daimon’s attention, unfortunately without his reinforced senses he couldn’t see what was happening, it was already amazing that just his bare eyes and ears he could notice the previous.

‘A magic beast perhaps, and someone who is fighting against it, Aisha’s overall position has been changing since earlier but she is still quite far ahead into the distance, so that might be one of those three guys or their subordinates’, thought Daimon.

The original selves of the lords and the Megalodon where also supposed to be here, but after looking at this place from a high point, Daimon realized that it was massive, and he seemed to have appeared at the outskirt, so those four shouldn’t be this far from the center, and so they weren’t an option for the time being.

After taking a moment to prepare himself, Daimon rushed through the mountain, it wasn’t as high as the ones he had passed before, so it didn’t take long for him to reach the peak, which allowed him to see what was the origin of the previous flash and that roar from before.

“Huh?”, imagine Daimon’s surprise when he caught a glimpse of something he didn’t expect, for starters there were some strange ethereal looking magic beasts making circles around the foot of the mountain.

They were relatively small of around two meters of length and looked like birds but had fur instead of feathers and their eyes were completely in blank, also they were indeed flying but couldn’t seem to go too high, but that’s not the most interesting part, but the fact that Daimon has seen something that resembles them… in his dreams.

That’s right, in one of the visions from the past that his black sea emblem had shown him, there was one in which countless magic beasts were falling from the sky, and these bird-like magic beasts looked like those ones, but on an incredibly much smaller scale, to the point that it shouldn’t be possible.

Because their wings were fully developed, meaning those ethereal looking things were adults, and if they were hatchlings of those magic beasts, which would be why their size was so small, they wouldn’t have their wings developed like that.

But let’s leave aside the shocking possibility that this place could be the endless sea he has seen in his dreams before, there was another familiar face which he didn’t expect to see in this place.

The one those magic beasts were surrounding and trying to hunt, a young girl with white hair, whose body was covered in yellow lightning that had a copperish tinge to it, as for specific characteristics, she has tiger ears and a tail, that was the little tiger girl Dana, whom he was supposed to look after if they ended up meeting, according to the contract he made with the white tiger half Emperor Leena.

“Wasn’t she supposed to be with Arianna though?”, wondered Daimon, back at their time with the Sea clan, which revered the Megalodon as their deity, they found a castle which had sunk, when the challenge related to it was cleared, where Arianna left a message for Daimon.

In said message she stated that she was with the little tiger girl and that they were fine, she also asked him to meet them when it was possible, but now Dana was here alone, fighting those magic beasts, that being said Daimon didn’t feel worried about that martial sister of his in the slightest.

‘If she were the type to die easily, she wouldn’t have been able to become Aura’s disciple, let’s go fulfill that contract for once’, thought Daimon as he jumped down the mountain.

Only now did the little tiger girl realize that there was someone else in the vicinity, she looked upwards and saw a masked silver haired youth descending from the sky, which made her blue eyes glow for a second.

The currents of electricity that were surrounding Dana, increased their fierceness, strangely enough Daimon couldn’t feel an ounce of mana coming from the little tiger girl, yet she was causing such a phenomenon, but questions could wait for later.

“Roarrrr!”, the electricity which was surrounding Dana gathered and formed a tiger which opened its jaw to then let out a thunderous roar, followed by arcs of lighting which spread all over the area atacking all the magic beasts that were surrounding her, “killing” them on the spot.

That attack was the origin of the roar and that yellow flash Daimon saw earlier, and the reason as to why it only happened once during the time Daimon was coming to this area, was because it apparently was too taxing for the little tiger girl to use.

“Phew”, Dana took a deep breath before her legs collapsed, she sat on the ground as she caught her breath, waiting for Daimon to arrive.

“Just like aunt Leena said, the masked big brother will come for sure if I needed his help”, she said with a smile as she saw Daimon landing next to her.

The term “masked big brother”, made Evangeline laugh the hell out of Daimon, who cleared his throat to then say.

“Ahem, just call me Daimon when there are no outsiders around”, he couldn’t bring himself to tell her to call him by the alias he chose for himself when using the Hollow Suit, which is the same name as Dana’s older brother “Gabriel”, when it wasn’t needed.

There is a reason he chose that name by the way, but we’ll leave that for later, for now he had many questions for Dana, but there was a chance someone else had caught an ear of the ruckus that was ongoing here earlier, so it was better to move to another place before anything else.

“Can you move?”, asked Daimon, to which the little tiger girl shook her head in response.

“Sorry, I was spotted by a pack of those magic beasts and have been fighting them while hiding and running for the past twelve hours, that attack used up the last of my strength”, she said.

‘She might be quite well mannered and calm for her age despite the situation she was in, but she is ultimately a little girl without much experience in terms of survival’, thought Daimon, after all she used all her remaining strength to finish her fight, when the correct choice would have been to save a bit so she could still move after it.

On the other hand, it could also be interpreted that Dana trusted Daimon to protect her even if she was out of the picture, not because she knew him, but because Leena told him she could trust him with her life.

“Here, hold onto me, we’ll cross a couple of mountains just in case”, said Daimon as he kneeled with his back facing Dana, who nodded to then cling onto him, with her arms around his neck, it was a piggyback ride, but as tired as she was, just her arms were enough for her to safely hold onto Daimon.

“Before leaving, could you take me to where those magic beasts died, please?”, she asked.

Daimon didn’t see a problem with it and so he walked towards the area where those ethereal magic beasts had disappeared after being impacted by Dana’s lightning earlier, they disappeared without a trace when they “died”, they didn’t seem to be alive to begin with, considering their blank gazes though.

The moment Daimon stepped into the area where the magic beasts died, red colored strands appeared out of nowhere and floated towards the little tiger girl that was clinging onto his back, to then be absorbed into her body.

This process repeated a couple of times as Daimon made a turn through all the areas where the magic beasts had died, before Dana said.

“That was the last one, thanks”, with that, Daimon’s legs tensed as he jumped to then climb through the mountain, without showing any signs of being slowed by carrying the little tiger girl, whose eyes glowed with surprise as she saw Daimon traversing a third part of a whole mountain in a matter of minutes.
