Chapter 687 - 687: The next step (part 2)
Listening to Lyn’s conclusion, Daimon couldn’t help but say.
“That’s interesting, because Badr affirmed to have heard Agrak’s brother talking about how the success of their mission could bring a “golden age” to the nethereal kingdom, which is why it was a bad idea to sent his idiot younger brother”.
“It sounds like you two were put on the same path on purpose so you would clash with each other, to begin with, who was the one from whom you guys obtained information about the so called “lead”, don’t tell me it was from the ruins themselves?”, to which the sky-blue haired girl shook her head.
“No idea, even the Megalodon general told us that he doesn’t know the origin of the information, supposedly only the supreme marshal of the army, the president of the council and the head of the noble faction, in other words the three most powerful and influential Thrones among the top ten, know the source of it”.
“I also considered the possibility that all this was a trap, but since those three who are always keeping each other in check, all approved of this mission, the intel they got should have been trustable to a certain extent, though those three have their respective downsides, they are all moved by the same thing, public recognition, so I doubt they would sabotage the mission themselves, since it would backfire on them”.
“And if they planned to have the nethereals ambush us and then come to our rescue to play heroes, they would have already done it, even with the difference in the time flow between this really distant Stellar Chart, and the Northern Sea, it’s been more than five years there, so they would have arrived at Neptune, in other words… they don’t know about our current situation”.
“That’s weird on itself, don’t you guys have life linked magic treasures, considering all the people that died here, they should have noticed that something was wrong?”, said Badr, making Lyn sigh.
“Mister, you probably got to know about that thanks to a spoiled scum noble from a family that is everything about money, like Agrak, a magic treasure to determine if the one linked to it, dies at such a huge distance is worth a few hundreds of planets and even then, it’s not something that would be available in the market normally”.
“Out of all of us, only Pheli and the Megalodon general have something like that, even my family which has the resources and status enough for it, couldn’t find one for myself, it does make me wonder though, the general could have indirectly sent a message to our kingdom by killing Byron who for sure should have a life bound treasure back at his family, our spies there would have noticed, and help would have been sent”.
“And yet, he went with this incredibly powerful but also complex sealing spell instead, which though got rid of the trash, didn’t properly kill those three, not to mention that we got entangled in the mess as well, meaning that the general didn’t have a high mastery on it and was probably interrupted by those guys somehow, so why complicate things so much”.
“Ah, forget it, my head hurts just trying to think about it, we’ll get to know about it once we reunite with the general, I’m too tired thanks to a certain someone”, ultimately said Lyn to then jump onto her bed as she proposed herself to sleep, not without adding.
“If you make me wake up, you are dead meat”, she said to Claire before she closed her eyes to sleep.
“This area is too bothersome, we’ll focus in crossing it tomorrow, so get some rest”, said Daimon, to which the others nodded.
“Goodnight”, said the little tiger girl and Arianna in unison, the werewolf girl couldn’t wait to go to sleep, because she knew that her energy’s advancement process will accelerate during her sleep, as for Badr he simply nodded and went to sleep while facing Claire, as if he was watching over her.
Not like it was needed, Daimon was brimming with energy, so besides resting while training with the silver light, he didn’t need to sleep, meaning that Claire would be under watch at all times.
Speaking of which, after having gotten a decent treatment despite being a prisoner, as in she was given something to eat and was tossed into the shower by Lyn, at Daimon’s request, the former Narwhal princess had the idea that the masked silver haired youth, had different plans for her than just being a prisoner.
But her plan to “seduce” her way to a comfortable position died the next second when Daimon whose eyes were closed as he was sitting cross legged meditating, casually said.
“I don’t care about the imaginary “cunning” plans that are in your mind, but I don’t relate myself with trash, and I would suggest you to not even think about trying anything like that, if you don’t want to die that is”.
‘Out of all the possible plans, to think of using a honeytrap strategy against someone that is surrounded by “flowers” full of thorns, who even told her that she had a thing for schemes’, said Evangeline as she snorted, which made Narasha ask.
‘This is what Aisha was talking about right, shouldn’t we kill her then?’, said the sword girl, which only proved Daimon’s point.
It wasn’t a threat, Daimon was being honest here, they were going to meet with Aisha at some point, and if there is anything that vampire mother of his, hates in this world, besides the Naktis and the Silverheart of course, that is “filthy opportunist bitches”, in her own words, that try to approach her son with ulterior motives.
And she is extremely sensible to such matters, there has been people like that who tried to marry into the Revy family, by arranging an engagement with Daimon, since Erin played the role of Daimon’s guardian for the public, and they wanted a connection of some sort with a half Emperor.
Well, it stopped happening when the fact that Liz and Elaine were both engaged to Daimon, became known, so to even try to get said connection, one needed a candidate that was on those two’s level at least, and as expected no families had “disposable” female pawns to sell off, of that level.
‘Leave her alone, someone like her would say and do anything for her own benefit, that type of people is really good to have on the enemy’s side, they are easy to use, forget about that, was that jealousy I heard in your voice, Eve?’, jokingly said Daimon, to which Narasha added.
‘Right, Daimon couldn’t feel it, but I felt a huge murderous intent coming from Eve a second ago~’, she said.
‘N-Nasha!’, being exposed by her friend, made the administrator girl raise her voice, before she ran away from the conversation with the excuse of going back to sleep.
That being said, Narasha’s casual suggestion to cut down Claire, made her feel a shiver run down her spine, which she confused with Daimon threatening to kill her.
‘H-How the hell did he know what was I thinking and what’s more, just thinking about seducing him is enough for me to die!’, thought Claire, any idea to try getting rid of her status as a prisoner in that way, immediately died down, and her fear for the masked silver haired youth, further increased, what she didn’t know is that this actually saved her life, besides Aisha, there are some other girls that would kill her on the spot, had her intentions leaked out of her, like it happened a second ago and not all of them are as easy to deal with as Narasha, after all.
…
Without anything else worth mentioning, besides the amusing sight of Arianna’s hair, wolf ears and tail going from their original light brown color a red one, to then return to normal, a cycle that repeated itself many times, the night calmly went on, though the sand storm increased its fierceness, which sounded like a bad thing, it was actually positive for Daimon’s group.
Thanks to it, the black blood specters either avoided this area, or only did quick inspections through it, because the sand storm got in their way, it also helped that the Lords believed that Claire had left the Blood Prison realm, so tonight’s search was for Lyn and as a member of the Northern Sea, they believed she wouldn’t stay in an area where there are zero chances of a water type blood specter to appear, like a desert.
Also, Reed who was in charge focused in looking for Ereth, since Byron had assigned the annoying tasks to him, as a way to vent his anger due to the whole fiasco with Claire.
Anyway a few hours later, Daimon whose body was covered in a layer of silver light, with a dimmed tone, suddenly opened his eyes, the storm outside of the cave finally stopped and the light radiated by the red sun, showered the desert, in other words they could now leave.
“Wake up you three, let’s have breakfast and start moving as soon as possible”, he said.
Naturally Daimon was talking to Arianna, the little tiger girl and Lyn, because Badr had woken up a couple of hours ago and was just resting, as for Claire, well let’s just say that she had a bad night trying to sleeping while tied and worried that someone would kill her in her sleep, a consequence of the threat she felt from Narasha yesterday.
Amusingly enough, the first one to get up was the little tiger girl who after yawning and rubbing her eyes a couple of times, greeted Daimon.
“Good morning”, the fact that she was tempted by the word “breakfast” played a big role in she waking up faster than normal of course, but the point is that those other two were completely dead asleep.
“Good morning, help me wake up those two before it gets late”, said Daimon as he sighed, Arianna got a free pass, she went through a quality change through the night, so it’s normal that she was deeply sleeping, but Lyn was just that hard to wake up.
“Mm”, with a small nod and expectation in her eyes as she saw Daimon taking out today’s breakfast, the little tiger girl shook both Arianna and Lyn a couple of times to wake them up.
“Mngh…”, Arianna was the first one to react, she unconsciously rolled on her bed as she stretched her body, to then remember that she wasn’t alone here, which made her face slightly redden.
“Ahem, good morning”, she limited to say, to which Daimon softly laughed.
“Are you okay, any discomfort?”, he asked, which made Arianna be confused for a second, until she noticed the change on her, when compared to yesterday her body was full of energy.
“This is…”, just by moving her hand, a red gleam was left behind on the air, to then be dispelled, that was the red energy she could control, and this was while she wasn’t actively doing anything.
“Big sister Arianna, it looks like you algo gained a “Pattern” on your hair”, jokingly said the little tiger girl.
“Huh?”, the confused Arianna, had her doubts solved when Daimon passed a hand mirror to her, which allowed her to see that a few irregular spots of her light brown hair, had dyed red and stayed like that, giving her a “pattern” though it wasn’t a striped one like in Dana’s case.
Unlike the phenomenon that happened before, this wasn’t caused by the red energy enveloping her body, Arianna’s hair had really turned red this time.
“It’s probably a side-effect of a saturation of vitality, it will return to normal once you learn how to control it, though the change in color will still happen when you use this technique of yours in the future”, said Daimon.
He has seen something similar in the Risha sisters, though in their case their hair remains the same, since they already have a color related to their affinities, when the mana contained in their wings overflow, their hair gain an elemental “glow” caused by the excess of mana, something similar happens for the Nelapsi girl, but for her it affects her eyes, probably because Reyne uses battle aura, so the effects are more internal oriented, unlike with mana.
“What’s the long face for, it does look a bit strange in its current state but that bloody red color is better than plain brown if you ask me”, casually said Lyn who had just woken up to see Arianna unconvinced by the change in her hair.
“Well, sorry for liking my “plain” hair the best, I have never seen or heard of a red-haired werewolf, I can already listen to those old stuck-up elders nagging at me for “imitating the blood junkies” from the Immortal galaxy”, said Arianna as she sighed.
Werewolves and vampires historically have had a horrible relationship, normally if they meet, a battle will break out in nine out of ten times, the first one to break that “tradition” was Aura, who has a much more rivalry kind of approach than enmity with the Nosfear’s matriarch, though she still hates the other vampire half Emperors to the bone, not because of their race, but because they are idiots from her perspective.
Arianna also agreed with Aura’s policy when dealing with vampires, “hate the person, not the race”, and to her surprise, her senior brother turned out to have a vampire lineage, though it wasn’t a defining trait for him, since that wasn’t the only lineage he had, according to what Aura had told her.
“Ugh, even I can’t help but sympathize with you in that aspect, those old bastards back at my family always nagged at me for not being elegant and princess-like, as they thought a Throne candidate has to be”, said Lyn as she grabbed an apple from the table to eat it in a few bites.
Luckily, those two actually got along really well so the breakfast was rather harmonious and once they had eaten to the content of their hearts, Badr carried Claire like a sack, just like yesterday to then point his left palm frontwards, creating a rectangular shaped nether wall, with which he blasted the entrance away.
It was for a good reason, the sand storm had half buried the cave, so Badr simply cleared the way, so that they could leave the cave.
“Woah, the terrain looks quite different compared to before”, exclaimed the little tiger girl as she looked at her surroundings, there were dunes that had formed due to the sand carried by the storm, formed ahead of them.
“Hey, you should know the location of the decently strong nethereals right, tell me the direction of the closest ones, they should have strength at the early and middle stage of the Arch rank”, said Daimon to Claire.
Certainly, Lyn knew where the traitors from the Northern Sea were sealed and originally Daimon planned to target them first, but since now Ereth will be doing the dirty work for him, meaning that in his hunt for Arlion, he’ll of course go after the sealed members of the Northern Sea, which in the Blood Prison realm are all traitors, besides Lyn by the way, then Daimon changed targets to focus on sealed nethereals.
‘Given the type of system that Marcus owns, his mission should require him to act behind the scenes, so he should be focusing in dealing with what he believes are the major obstacle in his path, in other words, the Lords’, concluded Daimon.
The opportunity he stole from Marcus, originally said that he had to eliminate the hidden gems, unlike Adam who was supposed to bring them to his side, so based on that, Marcus priority would be to eliminate the sealed nethereals, rather than bringing the traitors of the Northern Sea to his side.
And since Marcus doesn’t have an insider to tell him about where the strongest sealed nethereals might be, peak Arch rank ones are out of the question, if his subordinates managed to tempt and bring a lower ranked nethereal to their side, the information they would get from them, would be about early or middle Arch ranked nethereals at most.
So, if Daimon found them, he would find Marcus, and luckily, he has an informant in the form of Claire, at his complete disposition, if she didn’t want to be beaten to a pulp by Lyn at least.
“A-At east and west there are only Lord ranked in the vicinity, but at north there are actually two early-stage Arch ranks who are sealed in the same area, they were from the Violence faction if I remember correctly”, said Claire in a hurry as she felt Lyn’s glare on her.
“Let’s head northwards then”, said Daimon, the others had no complains so the group started travelling through the black sand desert, it’s worth mentioning that Arianna couldn’t hide her smile as she freed herself from the shackles of the ground from time to time.
That’s right, the werewolf girl now had the ability to fly, because her energy had crossed to the Arch rank, it was a simpler and incomplete version of the real thing of course, similar to how the crazy girl whose powers were boosted back at Kerrol, got to experience the feeling of being an Arch rank while still being at the Lord rank.
But it still allowed Arianna to fly at low height for continuous periods of time, and she used the opportunity to train, since she was new to the benefits granted by Daimon’s silver light playing a part in killing a blood specter, earlier she nearly crashed against the wall of the cave when she woke up, due to the increase in agility for example.
Luckily, the little tiger girl had warned her about it, so Arianna took it into account and avoided such an embarrassing situation, as a way to thank her, the werewolf girl gave Dana a ride on her back for a couple of minutes, because flying used energy and flying with a passenger needed more energy.
And so, a couple of hours passed and they didn’t encounter a single blood specter, probably because they got up early in the morning and the specters couldn’t be out in this area due to the storm, so by the time they found their first obstacle the next area was within view far into the distance.
“Now that’s unexpected”, said the sky-blue haired Lyn, not at the adult human sized scorpion blood specter that blocked their path, but at the area they could see into the distance, which was a… jungle.
In case you have forgotten, besides the blood specters, there is nothing else alive in the Blood Prison realm, only black soil, the black water was created by the Lords, and so trees shouldn’t exist in this place.
And yet now they were seeing a dense jungle, ahead of them, still Daimon whose sight surpassed that of any of the other people present, couldn’t help but frown behind his mask.
“They are indeed trees, but the trunks are made out of bone, and the branches as well as the “leaves” are thorns”, he said, to which Badr said.
“I know them, they are “Predator Graveyard Cypresses” a tree that is popular within the Death faction of the Nethereal kingdom, unlike other vegetation they don’t need water, or even sunlight to grow, they feed on death nether and or corpses alternatively”.
“Even so, I would have noticed if there were trees in the Blood Prison realm, so how come there suddenly is a jungle here?”, mumbled Lyn, to which Daimon answered.
“Well, you lost your Arch rank powers a couple of days ago, so there is a chance that this jungle didn’t exist until not too long ago”.
It made sense, with the Lords, Marcus, Ereth and Arlion wreaking havoc all over the place, the deterioration of the restrictions in the Blood Prison realm was accelerating, though things seemed to have stabilized, since stronger black blood specters weren’t appearing early in the morning, meaning that nothing had changed when compared to yesterday.
“That’s annoying, the reason as to why the Megalodon general stopped anything with life from appearing in the Blood Prison realm, was to prevent those three from gaining more nether and even then, Byron and Aslan still probably managed to squeeze some death and violence nether out of the blood specters by corroding them into black blood specters”.
“It’s especially bad since those trees use their thorns to attack not only others, but themselves, and that counts as violence, not to mention that the “winner” absorbs the energy of the loser, which would count as death, even if we destroy them the result will be the same”, said Badr, to which Daimon smirked behind his mask.
“And what if we get rid of them without killing them”, he said as his body shone in a dim silver light.
