Chapter 686 - 686: The next step (part 1)
While Arianna was bullying the wolf black blood specter, because the thing was completely immobilized by Badr, though in exchange for using this technique the nethereal couldn’t use any other technique until he dispelled it, Daimon walked through the battlefield.
Most of the times he simply observed his surroundings, but from time to time he stomped his right foot or used his fists to destroy the ground here and there, it’s worth mentioning that the rune shark has been eating the black strands resulting of the nether being evaporated after Claire’s technique to gather it, failed thanks to Lyn.
The previous didn’t last for too much though, a few minutes later Daimon was back to where the little tiger girl and Lyn who still looked unconvinced about letting Claire live, were resting.
Speaking of Claire, in a try to distract herself from the pain that Lyn caused her when she made the bones of her arms and legs crack, she tried to focus her attention on what the masked silver haired youth, who had the ultimate word regarding whether she gets to keep her life or not, was doing, but simply couldn’t reach a conclusion.
At least until the annoying wolf eared girl which had blocked her all the time, had returned alongside that tall scarred guy who she found strangely familiar, but couldn’t put the finger on who he was.
“Sorry, it took me more time than expected to kill that wolf, I simply had used too much energy and now I have to wait until I’m fully recovered to properly digest the red strand I obtained from it”, said Arianna with an apologetic voice.
For starters, Dana’s change was immediate because her energy only went from a stage of the Lord realm to another, as a proof of it, she still had to properly practice to perfect her control over the extra benefit she obtained thanks to the silver light casted on her by Daimon, playing its part when killing the tiger black blood specter.
But Arianna’s energy was already at the peak of the Lord rank, so Daimon estimated that she should cross to the Arch rank with the strand of that wolf, not to mention that she’ll also obtain the maximum benefit from it, like it happened for Dana, because you know, wolf related lineage, wolf shaped blood specter.
“No problem, the timer will start when I destroy that nether cloud and I needed to make some slight adjustments to the “stage” so that our dear public would have zero doubts about towards whom they should point their swords”, said Daimon as he shrugged.
Only then did Claire understood what was happening, it was as if she was hit by a bolt out of the blue.
“Y-You, so that’s why you were moving all over the place, you are going to pin all the blame on me!”, she exclaimed, to which Lyn smirked as she shook her had to then say with a mocking voice.
“What do you mean with “pin all the blame on you”, you and the lackeys sent by your beloved fiancé killed the guys allied with the Lords and then destroyed their precious nether farm”.
“As for the energies that the Lords won’t be able to recognize, well, isn’t a chaotic mix of lineages the most noticeable characteristic of natives from the Maelstrom Sea~”.
Claire wanted to curse Lyn, but the cold voice from the masked silver haired youth, made her swallow her insults.
“You’ll only speak when asked to”, said Daimon as he took out some ropes out of the inventory.
“Oh, let me carry her…”, before Lyn could finish her sentence, Daimon directly rejected her request.
“No, you’ll probably “accidentally” drag her through the ground or something along the lines of it, so Badr will be in charge of moving the prisoner”, he said.
“Humph”, Lyn softly snorted but she didn’t deny it, she was indeed going to drag Claire’s face through the dirt just to vent her anger and while normally Daimon wouldn’t care about that, they’ll have to rush out of this place as soon as he dispels the last remaining agglomeration of nether in the area.
‘Did he just said “Badr”, that scarred bastard is the battle slave of the youngest Belliel prince!’, inwardly screamed Claire while the nethereal tied the ropes around her body to then carry her on his shoulder like a sack.
Not without Daimon pointing his right index finger at Claire to then shoot six small streams of silver light, which condensed in the form of chains wrapped around her shoulders, knees, stomach and neck, respectively.
“You know what my energy does to nether, and those are extra dense condensations of my energy, at the slightest trace of you trying to play any tricks, your body will be ripped to pieces”, casually said Daimon, which made Claire’s body shiver as she was reminded of the glare behind the mask which she felt before, when she mentioned Dian family’s curses and rituals.
Besides a “message” that was transmitted to him by a certain Azure Galaxy Whale princess that was resting inside a ring, on his right hand, the other reason as to why Daimon took Claire as a prisoner instead of letting Lyn get rid of her, is because he could now safely restrain nethereals this way, without having to resort to his terror contractor skill, since he wanted to respect the rules of the challenge, so in a sense Claire was really lucky that today’s boost was not strength but dexterity.
Speaking of Claire, though it has been proved by Lyn that she is not the cunning strategist she believed herself to be, that doesn’t mean she is stupid, so it wasn’t hard to notice that the masked youth had a grudge with Dian.
‘Damn useless bastard, not only did he not send someone useful to free me from the damn seal, but he went and made enemies with this monster and I’m the one paying for it!’, cursed Claire to her insides, as expected of a self-centered and petty woman, everyone but her had to be at fault.
“My range has increased thanks to the dexterity boost, let’s start moving, we’ll accelerate the pace at my signal”, said Daimon to Arianna and the others who nodded as they started running past this area.
Once they had reached the border to the next area, which was actually a black sand desert where there were strong gusts of wind that carried black sand grains along them, were abundant, Daimon extended his left hand and a sphere of silver light condensed above his palm to then be thrown towards the remaining nether clouds that he intentionally kept, even after Arianna had gotten rid of the wolf.
“Now!”, without looking at the result and with Daimon’s voice as the signal, the five of them, as well as Claire which was being carried by Badr, accelerated the pace, soon disappearing into black sand desert region, thanks to the strong wind combined with sand that blocked the view.
That being said, with their sharper than normal senses, the little tiger girl as well as Arianna, managed to hear a thunder-like explosion coming from afar, followed by Lyn noticing the ground trembling a bit, which made her slightly look backwards before the group deepened into the sand storm area.
Back to when Daimon’s group rushed into the desert area, less than a minute after the sphere of silver energy shot by Daimon dispelled the last remaining nether cloud, the sky above the previously frozen wasteland area darkened, there were no nether clouds like before, the area simply got saturated with nether enough for the illumination to dim down a lot.
“Boooom!”, the ground violently cracked as a black portal forcefully opened on it, allowing a type of blood specter that no one in Daimon’s group, with the exception of Lyn has seen before, to appear, a black blood specter to be more accurate… a water type one.
And surprisingly it was a dolphin black blood specter, well, it used to be one at least, because at this point it has been corroded causing changes such as spiked tooth that protruded from its mouth, bone spikes on its fins and red blood-shot eyes.
Another thing worth mentioning, is that it was a peak Arch rank black blood specter, which means it shouldn’t be able to come out even if the area was being enveloped by nether until it’s night, at least not without the Lords paying a hefty price for it.
“That fucking bitch!!!”, right now the price wasn’t even worth mentioning for the Lords, at least not compared to the anger they were feeling, as the hatred-filled scream of three voices in unison which came from the dolphin black blood specter, suggested.
That being said and after causing a huge ruckus, which destroyed another part of what it used to be the frozen wasteland area, the dolphin black blood specter which had only half of its body outside of the black portal, was forced to retreat due to black chains coming from inside the portal, but it was enough for the ones that were spying through the bloodshot eyes of it, to reach a conclusion.
The moment the dolphin black blood specter was forced to retreat into the black portal, at a different place where three giant spheres of chains were being restrained by other countless chains, loud destructive sounds could be heard from the three of them.
“Damn it all, so that’s why we have been getting setback after setback, it was the doing of those two!”, said the Bane Lord to then add.
“Reed, it was you the one that suggested to strike a deal with that damn woman from the Northern Sea kingdom”, to which the Asmadian Lord who wasn’t any less angered by the previous, answered.
“Huh, you didn’t complain at all when the nether she produced throughout all those years was filling your pockets, so why are you trying to blame me now, besides weren’t you the one that suggested us to drag on helping her escape her seal just in case, well, your wariness backfired on us!”.
Truth to be told, Reed was also furious at what he saw earlier, not only was one of the two biggest sources of nether in the Blood Prison realm destroyed, but the woman which he was planning to use in order to recover his powers faster, escaped from his hands, and it was after he had already given her a proof of “goodwill” in the form of private teachings about nether based techniques, so he lost twice.
“Enough you two, let’s focus on the important, not only did that woman escape the seal without our assistance, but she even destroyed the nether farm and judging by the remnants of energy that I felt, people from the three groups that entered went there”.
“Ereth’s subordinates had gotten instructions to help that woman as slow as possible in order to let us control how fast she escaped her seal, but the group subordinated to Dian’s descendant was sent by Dian to assist her, while the other pieces of trash from the Maelstrom Sea were just there to try and get some benefits, and yet all of them were killed”.
“Based on the traces left in the battlefield, there was probably some stupid “lover’s quarrel”, but ultimately those two made up and used all the others as sacrifices to weaken the seal, then to get back at us that woman decided to screw us over by destroying the nether farming spot, after using what remained to her advantage since I can’t feel her presence anymore, meaning that her original lineage must be gone”, concluded Byron.
“And what are we going to do, sure it was just the secondary large source of nether, but this will make us lose terrain and also slow down the plan”, said Reed, to which Aslan added.
“How about asking that guy to go after that Dian bastard’s descendant and his subordinates, knowing that guy Claire must already be out of the Blood Prison realm and on her way to wherever Dian is, so weakening his forces beforehand is not a bad idea”.
Which made Byron nod, for a change he agreed with what those two were saying, Dian has proven to be a thorn on their sides quite a few times, maybe the first time it was accidental and in part Agrak’s fault, but now it was clear that he was antagonizing them.
“Fine, though that sly guy will demand for a partial forefront payment, if he loses subordinates, the scale will tilt in our favor for the late negotiations, as for the remaining guy, he should have no relation with Claire and yet he sent his subordinates after her, so he should be lacking the necessary strength to come here anyway, so we can just send the specters after him”.
“Reed, you are in charge of tonight’s hunt, send a specter to Ereth, we should avoid giving him something that directly boost his combat prowess, last time Aslan paid him with necromancy knowledge, offer him knowledge about some mind techniques and corpses from other guys of the Northern Sea as payment”, concluded the Balax Lord.
…
And now a few hours after the previous we are back to Daimon’s POV, speaking of Daimon, though unaware he was perfectly sure that his scheme to put all the blame on Dian was going to work, he had set up the stage perfectly after all, and that meant he now had to focus in locating and eliminating Marcus.
But it will have to wait for tomorrow, in part because the sand storm was getting worse and in part because the fight against Claire, actually tired those three, maybe it looked one-sided through the vast majority of the battle, but the truth is that those three used up everything but their last resorts against her.
Arianna especially needed rest and nutrients, she tanked most of Claire’s attacks and her recovery used up vitality, so a good meal was in order, in fact even within the sand storm Daimon could listen to her stomach growling from time to time, very much for the embarrassment of the werewolf girl.
“We have gained enough distance from the previous area, and those three should be furious so the black blood specters will be wracking havoc tonight, let’s stop here to pass the night, I see a rock formation spacious enough for us over there”, said Daimon as he pointed at a large rock that protruded from the ground.
Arianna and the others nodded in response and the group entered the cave before Daimon made the entrance collapse, thus isolating them from the sand storm which was getting fiercer as night approached, the temperature was also dropping quite a bit.
With a snap of his fingers, Daimon created small spheres of silver energy which illuminated the cave that was big enough for more than ten people to have their own personal rooms, though the ground was solid since it was a part of the rock, there was sand on it, so the first thing Daimon did was place blankets on the ground, before taking out the mattresses for everyone as well as the portable shower, it’s worth mentioning that, Claire was simply tossed on top of a blanket.
“Use the shower first, we’ll eat and listen to what our prisoner has to say after that”, said Daimon as he sat on his bed to start training with the silver light, while those three refreshed themselves, before Badr had his turn and lastly Daimon.
Seeing the little tiger girl almost drooling at the dishes that he was taking out of the inventory, Daimon gave the greenlight and everyone dug in, Arianna got a quadruple serving of everything, since she needed to replenish her vitality.
“A “little bird” told me that your participation in the mission that started this whole thing was suspicious from the very beginning, you didn’t come to support Dian but because of your own personal reasons, as in you probably got wind of something that others didn’t know, I want to hear about that”, casually said Daimon as he threw a bottle to Badr, it contained nourishment pills, which was everything Claire was getting as food.
Of course, the previous was based in the “message” that Ophelia conveyed to him earlier, back then she noticed some strange behavior on Claire, but the fight with the nethereals broke out before she could investigate it.
As to why Ophelia only mentioned it now, the memory about it suddenly returned to her mind in part due to the recovery process and in part because of Claire appearing in front of her, which probably triggered since it was a matter which Ophelia was paying quite the intention, before the battle with the nethereals started.
“Ah right, there was something like that, speak unless you want another taste of bone shattering fist”, said the sky-blue haired girl as she took a bite of a steak.
‘Damn it!’, Claire cursed in her mind, that piece of information was her life saving grace, she was afraid that after speaking about it, she’ll be killed.
“P-Promise that you won’t kill me”, she said which made Lyn glare at her, but Daimon nodded without any care in the world.
“Sure, you have more uses alive anyway, so long as you don’t try anything stupid, you’ll live”, he said, maybe not as of current since she is baggage, but in the future, that’s the other reason as to why Ophelia wanted to keep Claire alive, if they returned to their Stellar kingdom, proof of the White Disaster Shark’s family and their subordinates, betraying them was needed, and Claire would perfectly work as evidence.
Alternatively, she is the sole daughter of the Kener family and their first Throne candidate, so she could still prove to be useful in other aspects, the Vallmery didn’t participate in politics directly, because they are involved in the army and they respect the ancient rules to this day, but with a bit of blackmail they could have a second voice in the council, besides Lyn’s family which are their allies in the open, they could have the Kener working for them in the dark.
“My family managed to obtain a bit of intel about… the objective of our mission”, said Claire, which made Lyn instantly stand up to then say.
“Nonsense, not even Pheli’s ancestor, who is a Throne knew about it, only the top ten Thrones in the whole kingdom among which the Megalodon general is, had access to the specifics, so how come your family obtained intel about it?”, she said with a doubtful voice, clearly thinking that Claire was lying to save her life.
“I-I don’t know all the details, I listened to my father speaking with someone through a communication device in his studio, by coincidence, however it makes sense that we made such a long travel and even the Megalodon general accompanied us, since it was an exploration to find a lead to…the missing Throne”, added Claire, which made Lyn grit her teeth.
Now even she was inclined to believe Claire’s words, because something of that caliber even if it was just a lead, would be worthy of one of the strongest Thrones to be sent, also sending members of the young generation and only the Megalodon general to supervise them, to cover it up was a really good strategy as well.
“Is that missing Throne different than the others, or why is it so important?”, asked Daimon to which Lyn shook her head in response.
“There is no classification between the Thrones, the strength that they can display completely depends on their users, I told you about the ancient ruin where the Thrones remain until they find a user or where they return once their user dies, right”, she said to then add.
“There has always been an empty spot, which unlike the others where the Thrones that had never activated, have a stone plate with a symbol that signals the sealed respective Throne, is devoid of even that, according to the engravements of the ruin, the Northern Sea kingdom will be led to an age of glory when all the Thrones have appeared, regardless of whether they are occupied or not”.
“Of course there are different interpretations to the previous, some believe that it simply means that there will be another Throne available to be claimed, which will mean another noble family and that will increase the power of our kingdom as a whole, but others believe that the ruin holds other functions that require all the Thrones to be in their respective spots, to be activated”.
“Interestingly enough, from the very beginning the Dracolevia Throne existed not as a stone plate but as a Throne even if no one has ever obtained it, that’s also why everyone recognizes that lineage as the oldest one from our Stellar kingdom”, she said.
After the initial shock and curiosity, Lyn started ordering her ideas, one could almost listen to the gears in her mind moving as she analyzed the information she had with Claire’s affirmation, to make her own theory of what happened.
“Ah damn, if even those guys were able to obtain this intel, that means that there is a traitor between the top ten Thrones, or someone that is close enough to have obtained this information to then leak it, that leaves us with around twenty possible suspects, or perhaps the one from whom they obtained this lead betrayed us and sold it to the nethereals as well, and the Kener’s patriarch learned it from one of them”, she mumbled.
Whatever the case, Daimon’s goal didn’t change so he didn’t worry about the previous, he simply needed to return with his friends and close ones, safe and sound.
