Chapter 3740: Climbing The Cliff Again

Chapter 3740: Climbing The Cliff Again

Lu Yin’s eyes flickered. During his visits to the Wisdom Domain, Old Yu had once claimed that, since the Spirit Nidus had not yet reached its peak, once its foundation grew strong enough, it would be able to completely transform by resetting the Tianyuan Megaverse, becoming invincible. Of course, Lu Yin had since understood that everything had been a lie.

Even so, it was true that his megaverse had never been reset. There had to be a reason for that.

The High Seraph’s voice remained indifferent. “Our three megaverses are below, and the Nine Odysseys is above. Whether we can be reset or not is not our decision, but up to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and the Greater Sancti.

“If one Yue Ya could have reset the Tianyuan Megaverse that easily and his threats were valid, then your megaverse would have disappeared long ago.

“I know that you don’t believe me, so let me put things differently,” the High Seraph continued, “If Yue Ya could genuinely threaten you with resetting the Tianyuan Megaverse, he would have long done so already.”

Lu Yin had to admit that if resetting his megaverse was a real threat, then why wouldn’t Yue Ya just reset it? After his efforts were thwarted so many times, there was no doubt that Yue Ya should have already used such leverage. Threats alone would never be enough for Yue Ya to gain the upper hand.

If Lu Yin and the Origin Progenitor failed simply because they had hesitated, then their megaverse’s only fate would be to be reset. There was no other possibility. As for Boundless, which was hidden away in a parallel universe, those people would have no future.

Whether or not the two men believed the High Seraph, they had to ignore Yue Ya’s threats, crippling his perceived advantage.

There was one more thing: a threat could only serve as a threat when the target knew about it. Yue Ya had threatened Lu Yin and the Origin Progenitor to prevent them from hiding in a parallel universe, but after fighting against the Starforged Sword, the two men had vanished. Yue Ya had no idea if they had already gone to a parallel universe or not. Even if he could reset the Tianyuan Megaverse, he would never dare to do so rashly. He would first make sure that Lu Yin knew about it.

What would be the point of going to the Tianyuan if Lu Yin did not know about it?

Defeating Yue Ya was not the first priority. Rather, it was to stop communicating with him entirely.

The High Seraph said nothing more. He knew that Lu Yin and the Origin Progenitor both understood matters clearly. He then turned to the Origin Progenitor. “I would fall to a disadvantage if I take you up the cliff as well. I cannot agree to that.”

The Origin Progenitor stared at High Seraph, and after dismissing Yue Ya’s threats, he said, “On the contrary, taking me makes things completely fair. You could simply leave Pillar on top of the cliff, and you already know that I won’t try to approach that palace and will merely watch you. That should put everyone at ease.

“We won’t attack you, as we will need you to take us back down the cliff. This is simply to prevent you from escaping, which is why I’ll be watching you.”

The High Seraph hesitated.

Lu Yin bluntly stated, “If you refuse, then there’s nothing to discuss.”

The High Seraph relented. “Fine, but remember the condition that he just stated: he can’t approach the palace.”

Lu Yin glanced at the Origin Progenitor. The High Seraph had come to fear the Origin Progenitor far more than before. Was this because he had discovered the Origin Progenitor’s sequence particles?

Yue Ya, Ruler Garden, and the High Seraph were all extremely wary of the Origin Progenitor’s sequence particles. That was the power of a true foundation. While Lu Yin possessed incredible combat power, he was still far behind them in certain aspects.

If not for the Origin Progenitor’s warning, Lu Yin would have never realized that it was impossible for him to devour Yue Ya’s manifested thought and achieve the same effect.

There was no time to waste. The deal had been made, so the three men immediately returned to the Willbound Expanse.

Lu Yin was worried that Yue Ya might try to reach the Willbound Spire as well, but the High Seraph assured him that was not the case. Yue Ya had already attempted to enter the Willbound Spire when he first arrived in the Consciousness Megaverse, and he had sensed Greater Sancte Green Lotus’s power. There would not be another attempt, and Yue Ya was absolutely sure that no one else could get through either.

The people of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse held a deep, instinctive respect for all of the Greater Sancti. It greatly surpassed those who had no understanding of an Immortal’s power.

Lu Yin was quite familiar with that strength as well. Master Qing Cao had left an indelible impression on him, and Lu Yin would never forget what an Immortal could do.

If not for the power of karma, Lu Yin would also question whether anyone could break through Greater Sancte Green Lotus’s seal and return to the Willbound Spire.

This mental blind spot would buy them a great deal of time, as Yue Ya would continue to scour the rest of the Consciousness Megaverse.

Yong Heng could keep hiding. He could go wherever he wished.

Dark-gold manifested thought swept over the Consciousness Megaverse, causing Lu Yin and the High Seraph to exchange glances. It appeared that Yue Ya was ready to attack again. He had likely received the help of the Thirteen Luminaries.

The three men on their way to the Willbound Spire were among the most powerful experts in the three megaverses. It would not be difficult for them to simply avoid Yue Ya’s manifested thought as they made their way to the Willbound Spire.

When they arrived, all three casually approached the thatched hut.

The High Seraph and the Origin Progenitor simply watched as Lu Yin stepped forward. Gaining access depended entirely on him.

Lu Yin unleashed Heaven’s Blade and struck it with a spiral of karma so that he could observe the karmic wall that barricaded the door to the hut.

He still had no explanation for why an impact between Heaven’s Blade and karma allowed him to perceive the wall of karma. Only after he obtained the Lower Heaven’s Blade from Old Chief might Lu Yin be able to find an answer.

The Middle Heaven’s Blade that he had learned from Xi Wen had offered no such insight.

The hut’s door had been sealed by karma that effectively served as a wall.

Lu Yin studied the barrier carefully and then started prying out a brick at the very edge of the door. He intended to open a narrow crack for them to slip through, ensuring that it would not be easily discovered by others.

Only by making an opening at the very edge would that be possible.

Most people, even if they visited the hut, would attempt to enter from the center of the door.

At the moment, aside from a few experts like Yue Ya and Yong Heng, no one else was aware of the entrance to the Willbound Spire. There was a common flaw among such elites, which was that they could not think along the same lines as ordinary people. This was a sign of true power.

The more powerful the individual, the more they became bound by the thought patterns of the powerful.

For example, the Origin Progenitor and the High Seraph were both astonished to see Lu Yin pry out karmic bricks.

To ordinary people, such a scene would not seem too bizarre.

“Let’s go.” After making a narrow opening, Lu Yin squeezed sideways through the crack. It was so tight that his face was squeezed as he moved through.

The High Seraph and the Origin Progenitor exchanged looks of disbelief. Who would move so disgracefully!?

The Origin Progenitor gestured for the High Seraph to go, and the man approached the door. He lifted his hand, only to meet resistance. Reluctantly, he copied Lu Yin and squeezed through the edge of the door sideways. He moved forward mere inches at a time, his face squeezing and his features distorting due to the invisible karma.

There was no denying that Lu Yin’s opening was unorthodox. The High Seraph had not done such a thing since he had first begun cultivating.

Given the man’s talent, all eyes had been on him from the moment he had started on his path. Every move that he had ever made had been calculated to inspire awe. He had never done anything clumsy or unsightly. He would even dare to say that he had never done anything so sneaky.

The Origin Progenitor burst out laughing. The man looked exactly like a thief sneaking into a house.

The High Seraph, who was such a dignified and awe-inspiring figure, squeezed his way into a thatched hut like a common thief. If this image ever appeared in the Spirit Nidus, countless people would be left shocked and speechless.

After the High Seraph squeezed his way through, the Origin Progenitor followed suit, squeezing his way through in the same manner as the other two men.

He had not realized just how humiliating it was to move in such a manner until he had to do it himself.

There really was no other choice. If they did not do this, they would essentially be leaving the door wide open for Yue Ya to enter. At least in this way, the chances of Yue Ya or those with him entering the Willbound Spire were greatly reduced.

When the Origin Progenitor arrived at the bottom of the cliff in the Willbound Spire, the High Seraph took over, attacking the side of the cliff with Everlasting Will.

Lu Yin and the Origin Progenitor followed after the man with spirit thread. It did not take the three men long to reach the top of the cliff.

As he once again stepped foot on the cliff top, Lu Yin gazed at the distant palace. This time, he could approach it without reservation.

Standing atop the cliff gave him an inexplicable sense of security.

Even if the most powerful experts, such as Yue Ya, Yong Heng, or the Thirteen Luminaries arrived, they still would not be able to reach the top of the cliff.

Lu Yin’s only lingering worry was whether a lotus leaf would arrive with a powerful expert from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

But even if the remaining two Lesser Sancti arrived, it would still be useless. Such experts could not do anything to the three men.

Lu Yin understood that there were quite a few experts at his current level. His peers were those who had reached the peak of power beneath the Immortal realm.

“There are five Lesser Sancti, but who is the strongest?” Lu Yin suddenly asked.

The High Seraph continued to stare at the palace. “I don’t know.”

“How do Xing Fan and Dan Jin compare to you?”

The High Seraph looked at Lu Yin. “I don’t know, but Dan Jin... is not one to offend.”

“I’ve heard that Dan Jin’s been trying to get rid of you,” Lu Yin said with a bit of interest.

The High Seraph blandly replied, “Everyone in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse wants to eliminate me, not just Dan Jin.”

He stopped speaking and started walking towards the palace, entering the pressure of the memories.

The clifftop became utterly silent. The Origin Progenitor was fixated on the High Seraph, on guard for any sudden movements. So long as the old man was standing guard, Lu Yin could focus on approaching the palace without worry.

Memories surged like a wave, though nothing could be seen.

While they were clearly experiencing memories and feeling rather helpless, there were no scenes of the past. Instead, it felt as though their memories were being drawn taut like a string, pulled by the palace itself.

While the memories came from an individual and had their perspective, there was also a third-person aspect to them. It was as though the individual was observing the megaverse and everything within it, only to forget what they had seen. It was almost as though nothing at all had been seen.

There were sensations of tearing, immersion, as well as both pressure and tension. Step by step, Lu Yin moved closer to the palace, moving much faster than before.

Similarly, the High Seraph was also moving closer to the palace.

If anyone from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse saw how fast the two were moving, they would be stunned. Aside from Greater Sancti, many individuals had tried to approach the palace, but not even Lesser Sancti like Xing Fan and Dan Jin had been able to move so quickly.

Previously, while Old Chief had to restrain the speed of his progress, had Lu Yin and the High Seraph not done the same?

That first attempt had been a test, and they had been plagued by mutual wariness. This time, both men were genuinely attempting to reach the palace and seize whatever lay within.

Beneath the pressure of the memories, they lost all concept of time.

They even started to lose their sense of self, becoming uncertain if what they were sensing were memories or their current reality.

In that haze, Lu Yin began to feel that his identity of “Lu Yin” was nothing more than someone else’s memory.

He reached the same distance that he had reached before. It was the place where he had been struck by a memory shock and seen the River of Aeons, figures traveling up it, and a blurry tree. Those same images appeared once again. They felt so familiar, as though he had seen them before.

Lu Yin picked up his foot and took another step forward.

Even if the pressure of the memories wanted to break him, it was still much too soon.

His string of memory would not snap so easily.

When he glanced ahead, Lu Yin was surprised to see that the High Seraph had moved a good distance further.

With a second thought, Lu Yin realized that this made sense. The High Seraph had lived for an unknown length of time, and age itself could be a powerful asset. With the addition of cultivating his heart to be as solid as Everstone and his unparalleled willpower, very few could match the High Seraph in this aspect. Even if his consciousness was not equal to Lu Yin’s, the tempering that the High Seraph’s consciousness had received from Everstone could compensate for that.

Lu Yin averted his gaze and continued on, pressing forward.

At that moment, the High Seraph suddenly stopped moving, and his expression changed. He had just been struck by a memory shock.

The Origin Progenitor continued to stare at the man. “Pillar.”

Lu Yin stopped moving as well and looked over at the High Seraph. A fist clenched, as though Lu Yin was preparing to attack, but he restrained himself.

As soon as either of them made a move, neither would be able to approach the palace in peace.

With the palace before them, simply getting closest would prove one’s skill.

The High Seraph’s shifting features suddenly grew calm again. His eyes opened, and he turned back to look at Lu Yin.

“Were you testing me?” Lu Yin arched a brow.

The High Seraph stared at the younger man. “So long as you do not attack, neither will I.”
