Chapter 3739: What Was Done

Chapter 3739: What Was Done

Shuangdao was puzzled, as this was his first time seeing Yue Ya.

If the cloud wasn’t addressing me, it must have been referring to Old Chief.

Shuangdao had only recently reunited with Old Chief himself.

Old Chief stared at the dark-gold cloud. “I was not exactly helping. We simply shared a common enemy.”

“That enemy hasn’t even been eliminated, and yet you want to run?”

Old Chief countered in a low voice, “That enemy cannot be destroyed.”

Yue Ya’s voice rose. “He is already doomed.”

“All I have seen is more and more of your people dying.”

“That won’t change anything, though I do need your help.”

“Why should we help you?” Old Chief retorted. He no longer wished to remain in the Consciousness Megaverse. While the Thirteen Luminaries had set a trap for the High Seraph long ago, they had never expected the situation to escalate in such a manner. They had never imagined that so many powerful experts would appear in their megaverse. Old Chief would much rather face the High Seraph and the Seven Seraphs together than be trapped in the current Consciousness Megaverse.

The most powerful individuals currently in the Consciousness Megaverse far surpassed the strength of the Seven Seraphs. The Seraphs were only Dukkhans, and even the most powerful, Emperor Wu, had been slightly inferior to Old Chief. It would have been nearly impossible for Emperor Wu to block Old Chief’s consciousness, and the beast would have undoubtedly been trapped by his Heaven and Earth Lock. That was what had given Old Chief the confidence to lay a trap for the High Seraph.

The appearance of Lu Yin and Yong Heng in the Consciousness Megaverse had been entirely unexpected, especially Lu Yin. The young human’s consciousness had already surpassed Old Chief’s, and Lu Yin had other abilities on top of that. With the additional revelation of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s existence, Old Chief had been forced to seek a new path.

Yue Ya remained silent for a moment. “Help me. When I become a Greater Sancte, I will allow you to enter the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and will also guarantee the safety of your Consciousness Megaverse. Even if a reset is needed, it will be the Tianyuan Megaverse.”

Old Chief’s eyes narrowed when he heard resetting be mentioned. That was a sensitive topic.

Shuangdao’s voice rang out, “Can you become a Greater Sancte?”

The conscients had learned much from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse cultivators that they had captured atop the cliff in the Willbound Spire. Thus, they both knew that the Greater Sancti were all Immortals. This had been made clear.

Shuangdao had personally experienced the power of one of Green Lotus’s leaves, and that terrifying force was impossible to stop.

Yue Ya confidently declared, “There is an organization in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse known as Ruler Garden. Their experts are the ones who helped me to attack Lu Yin. They possess a very high status in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. You saw for yourselves how many Dukkhans were among their numbers. They were willing to risk everything to come here and help me in the Consciousness Megaverse. Doing this is a grave crime in our megaverse, and yet they were still willing to do so. They have faith in me because they know that I will succeed and will protect them afterwards.

“You will receive the same protection.

“With the protection of a Greater Sancte, not even Mo Shang will dare to move against you, no matter how brazen he may be. This is my promise to you.”

Shuangdao looked over at Old Chief, already rather convinced.

After all, they did not really have any other choice.

While they were willing to abandon the Consciousness Megaverse, escape had become practically impossible after Yue Ya caught up to them. Even if they did manage to escape, they would be hunted forever. On the other hand, if they helped Yue Ya kill Lu Yin, they would receive Yue Ya’s guarantee while also eliminating Lu Yin, who was the greatest threat to all conscients. Why not take this opportunity?

Lu Yin could devour conscients, which made him their greatest nemesis. He was an enemy who had to be destroyed.

If they lost this chance, it would become impossible to deal with him later on.

“I have one more condition,” Old Chief said.

Yue Ya calmly replied, “Tell me.”

Old Chief said solemnly, “I want to reach the top of the cliff in the Wilbound Spire and approach the palace there.”

It felt like Yue Ya was staring intently at Old Chief.

The conscient stared back at the dark-gold cloud. “The Willbound Spire is the most ancient location in my Consciousness Megaverse. The title of the Thirteen Luminaries originates from that place. We have looked up that cliff for ages, making countless attempts to climb it, yet we have always failed. Since the youths of your Nine Odysseys Megaverse are able to approach the palace, then you can give us that same opportunity.

“I want to try to reach the palace. Consider this fulfilling an ancient dream.”

Shuangdao also stared at Yue Ya.

There were rumors that the palace in the Willbound Spire contained the memories of an Immortal. Regardless of whether those rumors were true or not, the conscients were determined to approach that palace.

As conscients, they possessed an innate advantage.

After a long pause, Yue Ya finally agreed. “Very well. I accept this condition.”

Elsewhere, Lu Yin was studying the fragment of the Starforged Sword when the High Seraph suddenly appeared.

Lu Yin looked over at the High Seraph’s distant figure. “I didn’t think that you’d expose yourself.”

There was a solemn expression on the High Seraph’s face. “Yue Ya is searching for a way to break the current balance. He might find an unexpected ally. Are you not worried?”

Lu Yin chuckled. “Who? You? Yong Heng? The Thirteen Luminaries? There’s no one aside from you.”

The High Seraph replied in a somber tone, “Do not underestimate a Lesser Sancte. You haven’t seen his true power yet.”

Lu Yin agreed, “That’s true. As a Lesser Sancte, he must be strong enough to pose a threat to even you, and I haven’t seen that from him yet. Maybe his power is simply defensive in nature. Also, those people with him, are they also from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse?”

“The Nine Chi Court: ‘invincible within nine chi.’ A rather arrogant claim. Their technique is no different from the Five-Palm Art, ultimately being useless. So many of them worked together to attempt to kill you, but were it not for Old Chief’s sneak attack, you wouldn’t have even been hurt,” the High Seraph replied.

Lu Yin shrugged. “I was lucky.”

The High Seraph stared at him. “Yue Ya, Ruler Garden, and the Thirteen Luminaries. Add Yong Heng to the mix, and you’re doomed. Even I wouldn’t be able to help you then.”

Lu Yin did not argue with that. “Since you’re here, I assume that you have a countermeasure?”

“No.”

“Then why are you here?”

“To try to find one. I’m giving you a chance.”

Lu Yin frowned. “Giving me a chance?”

The High Seraph looked off into the distance. “The Willbound Spire.”

“What are you suggesting?” Lu Yin asked, looking confused.

The High Seraph showed a rare smile at this moment. “You can get in. I know it.”

Lu Yin stared at the High Seraph for a long time before the man continued, saying, “Greater Sancte Green Lotus cultivates karma, and his green lotus naturally uses karma as well. The Willbound Spire has been sealed by the power of karma. Since karma is involved, only you can gain access.”

Lu Yin coolly replied, “You are clearly overestimating me. An Immortal’s power is far beyond what I can touch.”

“That was just a leaf, not Green Lotus himself. If the Greater Sancte possessed the power to touch the Consciousness Megaverse, I would have already left. What you accomplished in the Spirit Nidus, you can accomplish here as well,” the High Seraph declared.

Lu Yin stared at the man. “And just what did I accomplish in the Spirit Nidus?”

The High Seraph said nothing.

Lu Yin asked again, “Do you know what I did in the Spirit Nidus?”

The High Seraph let out a long breath. “All of us are searching for a way to break this impasse. You did... exactly what I hoped you would do.”

Lu Yin suddenly laughed, seemingly without reason or cause. “You’re not trying to tell me that your entire scheme was to use me as a key to break the Spirit Nidus’s deadlock, are you?

“Are you trying to tell me that, just because you knew I comprehended karma, you allowed me to wreak havoc in the Spirit Nidus?

“You’re not going to claim to be the Spirit Nidus’s true savior, are you?”

The High Seraph calmly stared at Lu Yin, saying nothing.

The Origin Progenitor observed the High Seraph with a complicated expression.

Ever since they had learned the truth of the relationship between the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and the Spirit Nidus, the people of the Tianyuan Megaverse had felt more than just wariness towards their enemies or hatred for the potential that had been stolen. Sympathy had also appeared.

The Nine Odysseys Megaverse farmed the Spirit Nidus for spirit seed essence. The ruling megaverse used the spirit seeds cultivated by the people of the Spirit Nidus to refine their own cultivation system and obtain a second life for themselves while simultaneously developing a method of inheriting an externally cultivated spirit seed.

If the megaverses were imagined as people, then the Spirit Nidus was kneeling on the ground, crushed by the Nine Odysseys Megaverse; they were stripped, conquered, and utterly devoid of any form of dignity.

Despite all of this, not even the Spirit Nidus’s Seven Seraphs fully understood their circumstances.

Was the Tianyuan Megaverse to be pitied? While its potential had been crippled, it was not to be pitied. At the very least, they had remained free, never being farmed or consumed. The Spirit Nidus was truly the most pathetic of the three megaverses. Even their High Seraph, who was a peak Dukkhan and a Lesser Sancte, was looked down upon by mere youths of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

The lives of the countless cultivators in the Spirit Nidus could be reaped at any moment. Who would be willing to risk everything in a lifelong pursuit of cultivation, only to see those efforts benefit others?

The foundation of everything was the wall and funnels of karma. Without those, the Nine Odysseys Megaverse would have never been able to harvest the Spirit Nidus’s spirit seed essence.

Lu Yin had comprehended karma and was capable of ripping bricks out of the wall of karma. That meant that he could also shatter the stranglehold that the Nine Odysseys Megaverse had over the Spirit Nidus. That was precisely the High Seraph’s goal.

The High Seraph was ruthless, cruel, and completely devoid of emotions. He seemed indifferent to all life or death, and yet his scheme centered on Lu Yin assisting the entire Spirit Nidus.

“I’m no savior. I merely wish to turn the tide,” the High Seraph slowly stated.

Lu Yin laughed again. There was no mocking in his laugh; it was purely genuine. He could not decide how to judge the High Seraph. Was he good? Evil? Neither descriptor quite fit.

At this moment, Lu Yin felt as though he had been made to play Yong Heng’s role. The High Seraph sought to save his megaverse, and although Lu Yin had been used in pursuit of that goal, the High Seraph had also repeatedly saved Lu Yin. Even so, deep down, Lu Yin still saw the High Seraph as an enemy. That would not change.

In that case, was Lu Yin the Spirit Nidus’s villain?

He did not care what the Spirit Nidus thought of him. His original goal had been to reset the Spirit Nidus.

He found himself with a strange, indescribable emotion.

Everyone had their own perspective, and good and evil were solely determined by their perspective.

There was no doubt that the High Seraph was the Tianyuan Megaverse’s enemy, yet he was also a hero to the Spirit Nidus.

Lu Yin took a deep breath and suppressed that strange sense of contradiction. No matter what the High Seraph may have done for the Spirit Nidus, Lu Yin would continue to try to save his own megaverse.

“I can indeed reenter the Willbound Spire,” Lu Yin said. “Do you want to trade taking us to the top of the cliff for me to take you into the Willbound Spire?”

The High Seraph nodded. “However, not all of you; just you.

“I will only bring you with me to the top of the cliff.”

Lu Yin bluntly refused. “Not going to happen. You’re going to go with us. That’s the first requirement. Second.” His voice turned grave. “If we could have avoided Yue Ya, we would have already escaped into a parallel universe long ago.”

The High Seraph stared at Lu Yin and then made a guess, “Yue Ya threatened you with the Tianyuan Megaverse?”𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Lu Yin said nothing.

The High Seraph mockingly asked, “Do you really believe that he can go there?”

Lu Yin was taken aback. “What do you mean?”

“Of the three megaverses, the Tianyuan Megaverse is the weakest. In particular, before your rise to power, the only true powerhouse there was Yong Heng. My Spirit Nidus could have dealt with your megaverse by just sending a few Dukkhans. So, why has it remained untouched?

“What you know of the situation is certainly not the whole story.”
