Taking the Mafia to the Magic World

Chapter 1149: Guinea pig

Chapter 1149: Guinea pig

“Where is he?” Vicente asked after seeing that Mylecent was inviting him to face a powerful enemy right now.

The long white-haired woman’s words were very clear. She intended to give Vice the opportunity to obtain the Law of Darkness, which would involve attacking Barraz and his group. Given how this Devil was out to undermine her forces, they didn’t have much time and would have to act as soon as possible, or lose the chance to strike first.

“Not far.” She said as she showed a map to the trio. “Twelve days’ travel would be enough for us to reach his territory.” She pointed out the enemy’s exact position, unafraid to share such information.

Kong said, “That’s going to be a problem… The distance isn’t long, but we’ll have to pass through about three different domains on the way there.” He pointed outside the palace, remembering Mylecent’s troops earlier. “How exactly are we going to approach the enemy without attracting attention?”

Mylecent laughed, while Jelgos looked strangely at Kong. Naturally, the white dragon wasn’t used to Hell’s disputes.

Jelgos said in Mylecent’s place, “Moving undead isn’t exactly difficult. What’s really hard is getting into Barraz’s domain without attracting attention.”

“About that, I have a plan.” Mylecent pointed at Vicente. “Barraz knows about me, but not about my newest ally. If you and this old dragon head into the enemy’s domain together, Barraz could end up making a mistake and not noticing Jelgos and me.”

She threw an item, a green crystal sphere, to Vicente, who caught it in the air with his dominant hand.

“This is an Elemental Sphere, an artifact of natural origin found where I come from. It’s very simple. Infuse some of your energy into it and it can cause great destruction.” Mylecent explained. “Barraz doesn’t know you’re his enemy. He’ll recognize you as Hell’s chosen and try to understand you better. He’s quite arrogant, so he’ll underestimate you. At that time, Jelgos and I will be acting so that when you need to use the Elemental Sphere, we can hit the bastard hard.”

“So we’ll be the guinea pigs?” Vicente smiled bitterly as he asked her.

“That’s the only alternative apart from taking on the entire Barraz army…” She said with a serious tone and a mischievous smile on her lips. “But fear not, young Vicente. If I’m right, there’s a good chance that the Law of Darkness will recognize you. It won’t be so easy for Barraz to hurt you in this situation, even if the Elemental Sphere doesn’t hold him back for long.”

She looked at Jelgos, leaving the plan of action with him to speak only to him, after the group split up. “We’re going to go all out against the enemy, but he’s strong. When my troops are fighting the enemy’s forces, we will be prevented from acting to help you. So be smart and know how to move. If the Law of Darkness is really there, you should focus on it as soon as you use the Elemental Sphere. Even at your current level, you can influence the outcome of the battle if you can get this law!”

Vicente and Kong looked at each other, nodding in agreement.

This was a last-minute plan, something with many risks. But they both understood the great opportunity it would represent, and they both knew how strong Mylecent and Jelgos were. Even if Barraz was even stronger than them, the difference couldn’t be too great and they should have at least a few moments of breathing space.

“All right. We can do this.” Vicente said to her, in agreement with the plan. “Are we leaving right now?”

The woman shook her head in agreement. “Unfortunately, there’s no time to lose. As you told me yourselves, the enemies are close by. And if Barraz has the Law of Darkness, that means he could become stronger at any moment.” She looked deeply at Vicente. “He may not have your elemental affinity, but he’s a powerful Devil. He will succeed, as long as he has time.”

As soon as she had finished speaking, a black shape left her shadow, kneeling in front of Mylecent.

She said to Vincent, “I’ll leave one of my guardians at your side to guide you. Jelgos and I will be right behind you, but you won’t sense us. Just be sure that we will act as soon as it is necessary.”

Vicente accepted the arrangements in this way, not wasting his time asking questions about exactly what the role of Mylecent, Jelgos and the rest of the woman’s underlings would be.

“Guide them to the domains of Barraz.” She ordered her guardian. “But don’t enter his domain. Return to my side before you reach the final frontier.”

The guardian said nothing, just stood up and moved to Vicente and Kong’s side, acting as if he were part of their shadows.

She said to them, “I know it’s a bit sudden, but we’d better act now. Go ahead and in a few days it will be time to face Barraz. If we’re lucky, in a month at most, you’ll be able to go back to your previous plans and I’ll get on with my own business.”

As much as meeting Vicente had changed Mylecent’s plans, there were things she had planned that she still wanted to do. Not only that, she couldn’t see herself traveling alongside him just yet. Vice was still too weak and having someone of her level by his side all the time wouldn’t be good. This was especially true thinking of the world outside Hell, where the beings of Argardus might notice her and bring him more trouble than he could handle.

Vicente didn’t find the speed of things with Mylecent strange, either. He wanted to return to Anicane and get back to developing his plans with Theloria.

The quicker they acted now, the better!

’Maybe when Senior Minos finally makes his contact, I’ll already be at a higher level and can better prepare for the chaos that will come our way!’

“In that case, I bid Senior Mylecent farewell for now. See you again in a few days.” He said and then turned to leave, with Kong following at his side.

Mylecent and Jelgos stayed behind, watching the trio leave, while remaining silent. They too would leave in a few moments, when they would disappear along with all the creatures in this woman’s domain.

Vicente, Kong and the guardian of Mylecent would barely feel it, heading across the vast black plains of Hell, towards Barraz’s domains.

Kong asked Vicente quietly, “What do you think of all this? We’re on a very uncertain path. Until your clone contacts the Celestial King’s successor, there’s no guarantee that we’re on the right track.”

“I know.” Vicente said sincerely, having already thought about it. “But this is the way to strengthen ourselves and it will come in handy when we’re at Senior Minos’ side. Even if our plans have to change later on, they will fulfill their purpose. Now let’s just focus on what’s within our reach.”

Kong couldn’t disagree with Vicente’s logic and nodded to the young man next to him. “I hope you get closer to becoming a Transcendent. Only then can we truly play the game of those who want to keep the Nine Paths ’destroyed’.”

After these words, silence would accompany the trio on the journey ahead, as they traveled for a few days through the vastness of the black plains near the territories of Barraz and Mylecent.

This was an area of constant Devil movement and clashes over domains, like much of the domain formerly belonging to Devil Abby Miller in recent years. But the grim atmosphere in the region had been worse before and the guardian of Mylecent knew well where to go to avoid trouble.

After more than a week of traveling, the group arrived near the beginning of Barraz’s domains without having encountered any problems that required their forces to solve.

It was at this point in the journey that the shadowy guardian accompanying them spoke for the first time.

“I will have to return to my master’s side soon. The enemy’s territory and your omniscience abilities will take effect just over that hill.” Said the creature as it left the shadows of Vicente and Kong.

The two of them looked at the indicated spot, where not far ahead was the border of the enemy’s territory they were approaching.

The dark guardian didn’t wait for an answer and disappeared into the black ground of the area, apparently leaving them alone.

After a moment’s hesitation, the two moved on, ready to enter the territory of a late 10th stage Devil, who would certainly be hostile towards them!
