Chapter 183: The Birth of the Devil
Chapter 183: The Birth of the Devil
The Third Cycle… this was the first time the Verse of Cultivation experienced stabilization.
It introduced a limit to the endless power those in the previous cycles held. It was something they all came to know as the Power System—ranks tied to existence level and other things. However, even with this, it was still the beginning, and no beginning was truly perfect.
Though the ranks were firm and set… beings were still being born with untold levels of power and this Cycle introduced the Birth of a Creature so dark, so evil that even the deepest evils would run and hide.
After countless years from the start of the Third Cycle—long after civilizations had risen and set their power—a being had been incubating from the very beginning of it all. In the void was an egg of massive scale.
It was easily the size of a world, but it was in an uninhabitable zone that had never been discovered.
For many light years there were no worlds, no stars—only the faint hint of death, decay, rot, failure, madness, ruin, endings, and above all finality. It was a collection of powers that shouldn’t even be present in such a place, but they were and had been waiting until the creature inside the egg broke free.
About two million years after the Third Cycle, two beings saw a birth… if one knew of it, it would be nothing but ironic… but the then Universal Dragon Hegemony (yes, it’s a different ranking, but it’s no different than a Galactic Clan) saw the birth of its brightest star…
The Dragon of Eternity… a silverish-white scaled dragon promised to stand above all… while in the void the egg of something devilish burst open.
From it uncoiled a creature that spanned hundreds of millions of kilometers with scales so dark it was impossible for light to exist. And its eyes were abyssal black with red slits that gave the only light from the creature.
It lived with no name… only the name given from those that heard of its wrath.
It was the Dragon of Absolute Endings.
The Dragon of Absolute Endings was a creature that lived and knew nothing but destruction.
For millions of years, it knew nothing of power… nothing of morals… nothing of what made someone sentient. It existed purely in nature. From the moment it cracked open its shell, it wandered aimlessly until it encountered its first hint of life—though calling it life was a stretch.
It was a dying world, just slightly smaller than its own massive body.
In its eyes, there was nothing but life, no matter how faint. A dim red aura glimmered in its massive gaze. Without hesitation, without a single wasted motion, it consumed the world entirely. In that moment, it swelled in size, nearly doubling, and its rank surged from unranked to S in an instant.
Sickening, absurd—but to the Dragon of Absolute Endings, it was nothing more than just another ending.
For years, it persisted, erasing worlds from existence as people fought desperately to fend off the monster that desired nothing but the end of all things. Its power grew to a point where few could challenge it, and upon reaching the rank of Void Emperor, it gained sentience…
Why?
Well, it happened because someone finally chose to stop merely observing the creature’s life and instead enlighten it. Upon reaching the rank of Void Emperor, the dragon experienced an evolution—one that completely transformed its perspective on the world.
This creature was none other than the third incarnation of Ash himself.
After learning from his previous self and observing the last cycle, he didn’t change for the better—he only became worse. He came to truly understand the Power System, his place on the ladder, and most importantly, what it would take to grow stronger.
“And from that moment… the Devil was born.” The words came from a familiar voice behind Ash, one that had been watching all along—the Ash from the second cycle.
He walked up behind Ash, resting his elbow on his shoulder as they began to watch the memories together.
“Before, you made it sound like the incarnations before me just never thought of a way to reach our goal…” Ash said, shifting and causing his other self to stumble slightly.
“You literally waited countless years just to teach the guy how to speak,” Ash remarked, making the Second Cycle burst into laughter.
[A/N: From this point onward, during his memories his incarnation will be referred to as the cycle they were born in.]
“You should watch your words… that guy’s got a pride problem,” Second Cycle said, pointing behind Ash.
Behind him loomed two eyes as vast as universes, abyssal black with crimson slits. When Ash turned, he was met with a Dragon of unimaginable scale—far greater than anything he had envisioned.
It even dwarfed the Eye of First Dawn from the First Cycle.
“ROARRRRRR”
The Third Cycle… or The Dragon of Absolute Endings roared so loud Ash’s eardrums burst…
