Chapter 1725: Visited in Dream

Chapter 1725: Visited in Dream

Moments earlier.

“I’m going to check whether there are more matters to attend to, princess,” Count Dara stood up—and took a few important scrolls—with him. “I reckoned the internal matters are finished, and we can now move on to the external affairs, particularly the situation on our border.”

Count Dara was about to turn, but stopped mid-way.

His eyes landed on Countess Dara, who had fallen asleep on the sofa.

It was already late, and even she couldn’t endure the drowsing exhaustion from the Black Rift.

“I… I won’t be back for fifteen minutes at least,” He added. “Feel free to rest, princess.”

“I will, Lord Dara,” Princess Davina shot a small smile. “Take your time.”

Once Count Dara left the room to assemble the next batch of matters that needed to be handled, Princess Davina leaned back. She covered her face and breathed—feeling tired from all the reading she had done over half a day.

Since she was absent for a long time, work piled up mercilessly.

Governing a massive territory is not easy at all.

“I don’t know how father did this all this time,” She rubbed her eyes tiredly. “I’m so tired…”

Princess Davina wanted to stay awake as she was here only for work, and it would be more proper for her to stay awake, as even Count Dara hadn’t taken a break at all. But with only the steady breathing of Countess Dara filling the room, it was hard for her to hold on.

Her eyelids grew heavier with each blink.

Even with all her might to stay awake, the soft sofa and the silence made it unbearable.

’I should check Rex…’

At that thought, her mind was pulled and drifted into the dreamland.

Or at least, that’s where her mind should’ve gone, but an unknown force directed her mind elsewhere.

Princess Davina opened her eyes.

She wasn’t in Count Dara’s residence anymore, but somewhere else.

Confused, she pushed herself off the ground, only to realize she was lying on her chest in a pond of red water. Everything around her was drenched in crimson hue—everywhere she looked was soaked in the same ghastly hue.

In that overwhelming red, she alone remained untainted.

Emerald hue encased her body like a second layer of skin, making her stand out like an intruder.

But she was not an intruder; she was brought here.

“Blood…” Princess Davina inspected the red water with her hand, and from the thickness alone, it was unmistakably blood. “Did someone attack me to reach Rex? No, this is not a Spirit or Echo Genesis. It is something else.”

Princess Davina’s mind was thrown into suspicion that this was an attack from enemies.

Nobody would dare to kill her within the empire, but some would want to kill Rex as a usurper.

And this might be a way to keep her at bay while the enemies work on killing Rex.

But the energy that filled this space was foreign; it’s not life energy.

“I’m sure this place belongs to someone… I can feel intense emotions. Someone is angry at me.”

Princess Davina looked skyward and found the sky was moonless and starless—but it was bright red in color. From her perspective, this space was akin to a world entirely made of blood; the scent of blood alone could make anyone vomit.

Fortunately, she could keep her composure.

“Show yourself,” She uttered loud enough for her voice to echo. “I can feel your presence.”

Swish…

Princess Davina heard the sound of swirling water, and she looked over her shoulder.

Just as she expected, the water behind them was spinning gently, and then it climbed upward as if there was a deep-sea monster climbing out. It kept climbing higher and higher, and as this continued to slowly progress, the column began to manifest into a blood sphere.

And then the blood sphere turned into the shape of a figure.

It was the ruler of this place manifesting.

Undeterred, Princess Davina pivoted her body around and waited for the ruler to manifest fully.

A few seconds later, the figure manifested her full form.

A woman—if such a thing could still be called a woman—manifested before Princess Davina’s eyes; her entire form sculpted from living crimson. Her long black hair fanned weightlessly in the air, drifting and curling as though she were submerged in unseen waters.

Both of her eyes burned with scarlet irises, and within them was a spiraling black pattern.

Princess Davina’s gaze traced down and fixed on the blood woman’s elongated canines that seemed to hint at her origin, and further below was a red gown of liquid crimson that clung to her form, its surface shifted in slow, ominous waves.

And where her legs should’ve been, there were only tapering strands of blood.

“Do you know who I am?” Princess Davina asked, her voice stern and commanding. “I’m the second daughter of Duke Lorcan of the Haeltara Empire, the pillar of the new generation, Davina Castillon, the Graceful Starfall. State your identity, or I will hunt you down.”

Making an introduction like that is not something she did on a whim.

It was deliberate.

Judging from the reaction of the enemy after her introduction would reveal a clue that would help her know who she was dealing with. Tension would mean the blood woman recognized her name. Silence or indifference would mean ignorance. And mockery would mean—the worst of all: the blood woman knew who she was, and simply didn’t care.

And from how the blood woman’s lips curled in amusement, she seemed to know Princess Davina.

But she wasn’t afraid.

It was the worst-case scenario—the blood woman knew exactly who Princess Davina was, yet showed not a shred of concern for her background, which meant whatever she intended to do, she would do with purpose, utterly unfazed by the consequences of messing with someone with a status.

“Stay away from the Royal Black Prince…” the blood woman stated. “He’s mine.”

“Royal Black Prince…? Who?”

“Rex Silverstar…”

Hearing this, Princess Davina instantly realized that this blood woman came from the Mortal Realm.

She must be, since she seemed to know Rex.

And from the way the blood woman mentioned Rex’s name, it sounded intimate.

“In case you don’t know, he’s the one who came to me,” Princess Davina’s lips curled into a smirk, one that showed she wasn’t disturbed by the situation at all. “You claimed him to be yours, but I don’t think he also returned your feelings.”

Swish!

In the blink of an eye, the blood woman reappeared right before Princess Davina’s very eyes.

Her hands embraced Princess Davina’s face with unbridled malice.

“I’ll kill you… I’ll kill you… I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you and bring ruin to your empire…”

“Don’t flatter yourself. You can’t even deal with me, much less take down the empire.”

Princess Davina lifted her hand, revealing a small, intricately carved talisman resting in her palm—and the moment the blood woman’s gaze locked onto it; the talisman erupted in a blinding flare of light that enveloped the entire area.

For the briefest moment, the blood woman recoiled, hissing as she threw her arms over her eyes.

She felt pain coming from the radiance.

And in the next second, her entire body stiffened.

Splash!

Princess Davina clenched her hand into a fist with the talisman inside it and punched through a hole in the blood woman’s chest. She did so effortlessly that it caught the blood woman off guard, “You picked the wrong person to mess with.”

Slowly, she pulled her hand back, leaving behind a gaping hole in the blood woman’s chest.

Around, the space trembled as it began to collapse.

“I’m going to come back again, Davina Castillon…” the blood woman uttered hauntingly. “I promise.”

Even as the crimson space shattered and collapsed, turning back into the void, the blood woman kept her terrorizing eyes fixated on Princess Davina. It was almost like she was branding Princess Davina’s face into her memory.

“Hmmh…”

Princess Davina opened her eyes, finding that she was back in Count Dara’s residence again.

She looked at Countess Dara and found her still sleeping.

And there was no sign of Count Dara anywhere.

From the looks of it, only a few minutes have passed since she had fallen asleep.

“Who is that…?” Princess Davina massaged her throbbing forehead, recalling the blood woman’s face that was horrifying and beautiful at the same time. “She knew Rex—so she’s certainly from the Mortal Realm. Is she an enemy? But her stomach… She seemed pregnant.”

Reaching for her nose, Princess Davina frowned at the sight of blood.

It wasn’t much, barely covering her fingertip, but that’s enough to show the blood woman’s strength.

“For her to influence me even though our realms are separated, she’s not simple,” She exhaled lightly, slowly realizing that being close with Rex seemed to be more troublesome than she thought. “But then again, he’s now my fiancée. His enemy is also mine.”

Once she snapped out of her trance, she noticed a few figures were approaching.

Before she could check, the door was knocked on, and two figures entered.

It was Rex, and following behind him was Lady Ravyn.

Princess Davina looked at the two in confusion, not knowing what even made them know each other— like this. As far as she was concerned, Rex instantly went to his residence, so he shouldn’t be meeting anyone, especially Lady Ravyn, who was never the type to meddle with things.

From the other door on the opposite side, Count Dara also entered.

“Princess, there are only a few things that are urge—” He stopped when his eyes came across both Rex and Lady Ravyn, not expecting them to be visiting this late in the night. But judging from their faces, it was clear that something bad had happened. “What happened…?”

Back to the present.

Lucen was in his living room, sitting on the sofa impatiently.

His leg rose up and down as he kept his gaze on the paper charm on the table; the charm would glow if his personal assassins finished their task successfully. Being humiliated badly in front of his own sister, he couldn’t take it.

As someone born of noble blood, any kind of humiliation must be repaid a hundred times worse.

But realizing how powerful Rex was, Lucen couldn’t afford to be stingy.

Rex must die so that nobody will mess with him in the future.

Even though sending assassins isn’t honourable, he didn’t care.

Compared to securing his future, he couldn’t afford to think about honor right now.

“What’s taking him so long?” Lucen took the charm and stared at it nervously.

Just waiting for the news alone was making his heart pound like a war drum, but fortunately, the good news finally came. Lucen’s lips curled into a wide smile at the sight of the paper charm glowing; he let out his breath that he had been unconsciously holding all this time.

And now, he was walking along the road, following Lady Ravyn from behind.

She informed that Rex was dead, and they were being summoned.

Probably to handle the situation and appease Princess Davina’s wrath, which he was prepared to do.

“Did you kill him, brother?” Lady Ravyn suddenly asked.

She didn’t even stop or turn; she kept walking ahead.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, sister,” Lucen lied, but the grin on his face showed otherwise. “He’s a usurper who came from the Mortal Realm. I’m sure somebody out there who hated that Cardoc Mirza deeply sent the assassins to kill him.”

“I…” Lady Ravyn glanced over her shoulder. “I never said he was killed by assassins.”

“Err…” Lucen paused, realizing his mistake.

But instead of pressing him further, Lady Ravyn continued to walk again.

’What’s her problem? She also wanted to kill him,’ Lucen sneered, finding her sister to be a hypocrite when she was the one who struck first. ’No matter, she wouldn’t be able to prove that it was me, anyway. It doesn’t matter that she knew that it was me. It’s fine. I’m fine.’
