Chapter 3235: Resonaissance

Chapter 3235: Resonaissance

The dark elves stared at him with a stunned gaze and a confused expression.

They didn’t understand.

They didn’t understand where all that power came from.

Rui, on the other hand, had already begun looking past them, setting his vision deeper and deeper into the Forest of War.

WHOOSH

In the blink of an eye, he disappeared from their field of vision, heading inward at extraordinary speeds.

Much to his surprise, however, he very quickly ran into resistance.

BOOOM!

In the blink of an eye, a tremendous amount of wood that exceeded even the combined attack of the previous dark elves surged towards him, intercepting his power.

RUMBLE!

The sheer force with which he was stopped shook the world around them, although the seismic radiation was quickly absorbed by all the roots around them.

Some distance away from him, he found himself staring at a dark elf who stood on a variety of floating petals. Her presence was heavier than the other dark elves he had fought up until that point. Her lean body was scantily clad as vines emerged from within her skin, cladding her body in a tough vegetative armor.

He could vaguely sense that she had a greater bond with nature than any of the dark elves he had previously fought. He could sense even greater activity in her mind and a far larger flux of information between herself and the nature around her.

“That’s enough.” Her ruby eyes bore deep into his pitch-black eyes. “Why do you invade our lands, outsider?”

It appeared that the Mother of Nature had not informed all of them that this was simply a sparring session. Perhaps to motivate the dark elves more, since they disdained conflict and would rather avoid it if not necessary.

Rui didn’t even bother gracing her question with an answer. Instead, he simply charged at her with a speedy dash. And yet, before he could take even a full step, a mountain’s worth of flora emerged from the forests around them, converging on him with great power.

WHOOSH!

He just barely managed to evade the attacks as he leaped away, only for the wood to follow him autonomously. The dark elf, on the other hand, closed her eyes as she pointed towards him, before snapping her fingers.

RUMBLE!

The world shook as trees changed their shape, growing straighter as their branches converged at the top.

They became… missiles.

“Wha—” Rui did a double-take even as he evaded all the branches converging upon him midair.

FSSSSHHH!!!

The base of trees unleashed a powerful organic flaming propellant as the wooden missiles launched from the forests, surging towards him at speeds greatly exceeding that of sound.

Rui’s eyes sharpened as he unleashed a myriad of Sonic Bullets upon them, causing them to explode midair well before they reached him.

THWOOM THWOOM THWOOM!

BOOOM BOOOM BOOOM!!!

Massive green explosions reached hundreds of meters in diameter as Rui leaped away even further to avoid being harmed by them.

“What the hell was that?!” Rui turned to her with surprise, even as he evaded branch and leaf attacks. “Are all trees in the Genora Continent secret missiles?”

“Yes,” she calmly confirmed. “All flora on the continent has been genetically modified to contain the genes of Specalia Obsura, a species of trees that undergo instantaneous changes in its physiology when certain conditions are met, allowing it to explode to turn into projectiles to destroy predators or threats while spreading its seeds with the explosion.”

“Absurd…”

It meant that the elves of Genora could burn down the entire world if they wanted to. Of course, it would be suicidal considering that they would lose all the flora that they needed to survive, but it was a chilling realization nonetheless.

And yet, Rui couldn’t contain a smile of delighted excitement nonetheless.

She sharpened her eyes.

“Why do you smile?”

“I’m just glad you guys are strong.” Rui’s smile grew more confident. “It wouldn’t be fun adaptively evolving to you guys otherwise.”

She frowned. “What?”

WHOOSH!

Her eyes widened as Rui emerged before her in the blink of an eye, bypassing the entire forest as though it didn’t even exist. His fist surged towards her jaw, threatening to knock her out then and there.

A wall of wood charged to intercept the attack, just as he had expected.

And yet, it didn’t matter.

BOOOM!

His vibrating fist crashed into the wood as he used Reverberating Lance to send vibrations through the wood at a very precise frequency.

The resonant frequency of the substance of the wood.

It was the principle that was the basis of his Death’s Sympathy technique, using sympathetic resonance to bypass the guard entirely.

VMMM!

The wood vibrated as the vibrations effortlessly passed through the wood without any impedance, entering the air and striking the dark elf nonetheless.

“Argh!” Her head rocked violently as the sound blasted her.

Her body went limp as her eyes rolled over, causing her to go unconscious then and there.

This was how Rui had chosen to adaptively evolve to the automatic wooden defenses of the dark elves intercepting his every attack.

With the help of his prophecy-enhanced Forge of Creation, he had created a new technique on the spot.

Resonaissance.

A name born from the portmanteau of Resonance and Renaissance. It was a system of thought that relied on his powerful senses and sonic stimulus to a defensive substance to deduce what its resonance frequency was almost instantly.

In the past, he needed to continuously smack his opponent over and over to figure out what the resonant frequency was, but he had grown much more capable since then.

Using the resonant frequency that he gained from Resonaissance, he could bypass all physical barriers effortlessly.

And just like that, he overcame the primary mode of defense of the dark elves.

He grinned with excitement as he headed deeper and deeper into the Forest of War in search of stronger and stronger dark elves that awaited his arrival. Thus far, he had enjoyed sparring with the elves, but now that he had warmed up, he sought more intense and testing battles.
