Chapter 380 Demonic Cultivators Join in!
At this point, the atmosphere among the Desolate Heaven Empire’s forces had shifted.
The Beast Tide no longer felt like an apocalyptic calamity-because Bai Zihan had turned it into a harvest.
“Look at that!”
One junior cultivator whispered as Bai Zihan cut down another Grade-9 beast with casual elegance.
“They just keep lining up to die.”
“Do these beasts not learn?” another snorted. “Throwing more bodies at him won’t change the result!”
“Honestly, are we sure this is a High-Level Beast Tide?”
A spear-bearing inner disciple chimed in.
Laughter spread through the ranks.
Even the Elders cracked faint smiles.
Last time, they had been terrified by just the sheer numbers.
This time?
Watching Bai Zihan massacre wave after wave of Grade-9 beasts made them relax-perhaps too much.
Some began treating the battle like a spectacle between their own attacks, shouting comments that bordered on playful:
“Hey, the next group is coming! Guess how long he’ll take to kill this batch?”
“I put my allowance on ten breaths!”
“Ten breaths? You dare underestimate Young Master Bai? Five breaths at most!”
The tension that had suffocated them for days was finally loosening.
Well, after all there was not much pressure for them to kill their enemy.
As long as they could just stall them enough, Bai Zihan would reduce the number of Grade-9 Demonic Beasts making it easy for elders to come help them.
If it continued this way, it was for certain that this time too would be their absolute victory.
But then-
A sound tore across the battlefield.
SLASH-SLASH-SLASH!
Multiple sharp cracks ripped through the eastern flank, each one followed by a spray of blood and a body collapsing.
“AAAHHHHH!”
Screams erupted instantly.
Cultivators who had been talking just moments before were suddenly cleaved apart-some falling in halves, others dropping like puppets with severed strings. Limbs hit the ground.
Blood mist rolled through the air.
The formation lines buckled as dozens of Desolate Heaven Empire cultivators crumpled without even seeing the attack.
Panic rippled outward in a wave as the survivors stumbled back, staring in
horror at the carnage blooming among their ranks.
No one understood what had just happened immediately.
The battlefield, already tense, seemed to freeze.
Every gaze whipped toward the eastern flank, where corpses lay scattered, freshly cut, their blood steaming in the cold air.
Then-
Thousands of demonic qi tendrils burst forth like a blooming flower of death.
“Hehehe… what easy prey…”
“Look how fragile they are…”
“Slice them apart-leave none standing…”
The voices were sharp, layered with madness and bloodlust, like broken glass scraping across bone.
A chill ran through the Desolate Heaven Empire’s forces.
Only then did everyone finally understand.
These deaths were not caused by beasts.
It was Demonic Cultivators.
They had infiltrated the battlefield, hiding in the shadow of the Beast Tide, waiting for the perfect moment to strike-and now their malicious laughter spilled into the open as their silhouettes emerged fully from the inky haze.
They had arrived without warning.
Without sound.
Without being sensed.
Commander Wei Zongyuan’s expression twisted from relaxed confidence into shock and fury.
“What… what are the scouts doing!?”
He roared, Qi flaring violently.
“How did such a large number of Demonic Cultivators get into our formation
without-“
Commander Wei wanted to blame the scout for failing to do their duty but he realized something and was truly shaken.
Not only had the scouts failed since Demonic Cultivators that too in such numbers managed to infiltrate, then it meant even Immortal Realm cultivators hadn’t sensed them.
If they had sensed them, they would have at least warned them beforehand.
Which meant that whatever method that they used, they were able to hide
their Qi even from Immortal Cultivators.
That was when a scout, drenched in blood, staggered into view, gasping, half-kneeling before Commander Wei.
“R-report!”
Wei Zongyuan ordered, “Speak!”
The scout’s voice shook uncontrollably.
“Commander… we-the forward scouting units-we… we just discovered…”
He swallowed hard.
Even speaking the next words seemed to terrify him.
“…multiple large groups of Demonic Cultivators… surrounding us from all sides.”
Commander Wei’s expression hardened.
Who would have thought that Demonic Cultivators were nowhere to be seen
but in a blink, without their knowledge they had managed to surround them.
Although they knew that the Demonic Cultivators wouldn’t just sit and watch the Beast Tide get slaughtered again.
Otherwise, their long-awaited plan would amount to nothing.
Although they had already prepared countermeasures for this exact scenario, Commander Wei Zongyuan still couldn’t stop the unease gnawing at him-
especially after seeing how the Demonic Cultivators had slipped so close
without anyone noticing.
Wei Zongyuan exhaled slowly. Anyways, they had to just go with the countermeasures that they had prepared.
Then his commanding voice rang out like a war horn.
“Reserve units-MOVE!!”
All the reserve forces that had been waiting for this moment surged forward.
“As expected,” Wei Zongyuan muttered, voice low and biting, “the Demonic Cultivators wouldn’t just sit and watch their beasts die.”
He swept his arm toward the spreading demonic mist.
“They wanted to use the chaos to seize the Desolate Heaven Empire’s
territory… to steal the title of strongest force.”
He laughed once-short, humorless.
“But now they’ve walked right into our jaws.”
Looking at their force, he was filled with confidence again.
After all, they had the best of the best of Desolate Heaven Empire and there is
no way that they would lose.
Commanders barked orders, reorganizing the formation to brace for a
two-front war.
The atmosphere-once relaxed, careless-tightened like a bowstring drawn to
its limit.
Scouts scrambled into position.
Immortal Realm elders surged forward, however, they didn’t join right away.
They had to wait for the Immortal Realm opponent from their opponent’s side.
The reserves filled the gaps in the eastern flank where bodies lay strewn across the grass.
Wei Zongyuan raised his sword high, qi radiating like a blazing pillar.
“Today,” he roared, “we eliminate BOTH scourges of the Desolate Heaven
Empire!”
His killing intent exploded outward.
“BEAST TIDE AND DEMONIC CULTIVATORS—”
“WE WIPE THEM OUT TOGETHER!”
The troops, shaken but rallying, shouted back with renewed fervor.
War drums thundered from the rear.
Qi surged like a rising tide. This is time for real war!
