Chapter 1182: Real core of the ruins (4)
The room that he walked into was a simple room that didn’t seem to have much.
Though the fact that this was a room that was properly decorated while the rest of this place was still a cave showed that this was a special room that had been carefully made.
As for why it was specially decorated, it was clear that this was the location of the first trial.
There was a table that was at the center of this room with something on it.
“Black and white pieces?” Lin Fan said as he looked at the chess board that was in front of him.
It seemed like there was a scenario that was set on the board in front of him.
This seemed to be some kind of problem that he needed to solve, but it wasn’t as if Lin Fan knew how to do that. After all, this wasn’t one of the things that he learned in his past life.
Even in this life, he hadn’t spent much time learning this.
In fact, he played more with the products that he had given to Yue Lan and her Royal Store to sell. As well as the video games that Rokuko summoned from the dungeon core system.
With those things, it wasn’t as if there was a need for him to actually play this game.
So now that there was something like this placed in front of him, Lin Fan was at a bit of a loss as to what to do.
After thinking about it, the only thing that he could do was use his Appraisal Eyes on it.
However, the only thing that the Appraisal Eyes showed him was the materials that this board and the pieces on it were made of. These weren’t made from special materials in the first place, so it wasn’t as if the Appraisal Eyes actually gave him any information.
While looking at this board, Lin Fan couldn’t help feeling stumped.
After all, it wasn’t as if he knew what to do now that this board was in front of him.
Even if he wanted to solve this puzzle, he didn’t have a single clue where to start.
But while Lin Fan was looking at the puzzle in front of him with a confused look on his face, there was something that suddenly appeared.
The moment that this thing appeared in his vision, Lin Fan couldn’t help deeply knitting his brows. After all, this was something that had never happened before and he was even afraid that there was something wrong with his eyes.
“Host, please follow the instructions to solve this.”
Lin Fan was even more caught off guard when he heard this from the system.
He didn’t follow the instructions that the system gave as he just looked at the board that was in front of him. The look on his face was as if he was trying to see if the solution that the system gave him was correct.
Only it didn’t take long for Lin Fan to give up.
Even if he tried to see through this, it wasn’t as if he had any idea what the solution the system gave him was doing. He didn’t even understand the objective of the game completely.
So in the end, there was nothing that Lin Fan could do.
As he looked at the board, he finally decided that there was no reason that the system would try to harm him.
That was why he followed the instructions that the system gave him.
Or he would have if not for…
“Wrong piece. Please use the black piece first.”
A bitter smile appeared on Lin Fan’s face when he heard this.
There wasn’t anything that he could say since he really had no idea what he was doing in this situation. So even if the system said this almost as if it thought that he was some kind of idiot, the only thing that he could do was take it.
After following the instructions that the system gave him, he suddenly heard a sound coming from the side.
“Click.”
When he looked over, he found that there was a door that opened for him.
This was expected, but it was also unexpected for Lin Fan since he didn’t think that the system would give him the answer that easily. But in the end, the answer that the system gave was the answer to this puzzle.
“Host, the system is here to help.” The system felt like it had to add this when he was heading to the door.
A trace of bitterness appeared in Lin Fan’s smile, but he didn’t say anything in the end.
After all, he couldn’t help feeling that there was something wrong about what the system said.
The system had never done anything like this to help him before, so it really felt wrong when the system took the initiative to help him.
As he thought this, the system suddenly said, “It’s because the host has never needed the system’s help like this before.”
Lin Fan really didn’t know what to say in response to this, so he just once again simply chose not to say anything.
After entering that exit, he continued down the hall that was laid out in front of him.
There was light here even though there wasn’t anything that seemed like it could be a light source. But then again, it wasn’t strange that there would be light like this in a place like this.
There was an entire sun that lit up that underground world outside.
If they could do that, then they would be able to create a bit of light.
After following this corridor for a bit, Lin Fan arrived at another room. Only this time, this room was different from the one that he had just been in.
While it was different, it wasn’t as if this room was that much different compared to the one that he had been in previously.
That was because this room had the same design as the other room down to the table that was at the very center of the room. But it was also this table that was different from the rest of the room.
That was because of having a board with chess pieces on it, there was a piece of paper and what seemed to be a brush that was there. On the side, there was even what seemed to be an ink stone and ink well that could be used to make ink.
“So first it was chess and now it’s calligraphy?” Lin Fan couldn’t help muttering to himself when he saw this.
It seemed that this test was testing him on his skills in the four arts, but…
“Why?” Lin Fan couldn’t help feeling confused as he looked at the piece of paper and brush in front of him.
But other than this, there was a feeling of helplessness as he looked at these two things.
That was because just like with the chess puzzle, he didn’t know what to do here either. It wasn’t as if he had ever studied calligraphy in his past life and even in this life, it wasn’t as if he had spent any time learning it.
There were more important things to do, so he never spent the time learning it.
And it wasn’t as if this was something that Lin Fan was interested in.
But while he was just staring at this piece of paper, there was something that appeared in his vision again.
This time, it wasn’t just the outline of chess pieces being put in place.
This time, it was a demonstration of how to write a word on the piece of paper.
When he looked to the side, there was even a demonstration on how to grind his own ink.
Lin Fan didn’t really know what to say even though he knew exactly who it was that was helping him.
But after a moment of silence, he did think of something that he could say.
“Is this even the right character? Even if I were to write this, how are you certain that it would pass this trial?”
After all, there was no indication of what he should even write on this piece of paper. So there was no telling what should be the right answer.
“There is no right answer. Host, this is a demonstration of one’s ability to write characters with calligraphy, so it is a test of skill rather than a question and answer trial. As such, the host just needs to demonstrate their skills in calligraphy to pass.”
Lin Fan felt like he was a bit crazy, but he also felt that the system made sense when it said this.
But after thinking this, Lin Fan still had to doubt the system.
“Why do you think that this will be enough?”
“The system is a grandmaster of calligraphy. Please do not doubt the skills of the system.”
It was almost as if there was a trace of pride in the system’s voice when it said this that made Lin Fan’s mouth twitch.
But in the end, he really didn’t have a better choice…
So even if it was a bit sloppy in the end, he was able to follow the system’s instructions.
When it was over, there was another sound that rang out.
“Click.”
Once again, there was a door that opened to his side that allowed him to continue.
But as he was leaving…
“The host should be more careful next time and follow the system’s instructions precisely.”
His lips couldn’t help twitching when he heard this.
