First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2427 - A Lamb Enters a Tiger’s Mouth

Chapter 2427 – A Lamb Enters a Tiger’s Mouth

Meanwhile, Su Yi sensed the changes in the outside world from within the bundle of light.

When he saw his old friends and brothers-in-arms attack him in a frenzy, Su Yi couldn’t help but sigh to himself.

He wasn’t exactly angry. He’d anticipated this development right from the start.

It was just… even so, it was hard to stay calm when he saw his old friends trying to kill him. Moreover, he was at a critical juncture in his tribulation. He couldn’t afford to divert his attention to stop them.

Unless….

He’d only just thought this when a voice suddenly rang out.

“If you beg me, I’ll happily deliver coal in a blizzard and help you resolve this catastrophe.”

Su Yi suddenly noticed that a figure had appeared out of nowhere, stopping his brothers-in-arms from attacking.

He was a handsome young man, and he held a black book aloft.

This was none other than the owner of the Book of Legends, a suspected expert from the River of Destiny!

He appeared out of nowhere, swathed in Dao Light. Shockingly, he cleaved through the tribulation light filling the sky. Standing there, he was like a formless natural barrier blocking the charging captives!

Who is that guy? Demon Emperor Chi Nie and the others’ expressions darkened.

Luo Yao and the others were stunned, too. It was obvious at a glance that the delicately handsome young man wasn’t simple.

Moreover, it was obvious that he wasn’t really there to help. He just wanted to seize this opportunity to force Su Yi to beg him!

“You’d best not even try to stall for time,” laughed the delicately handsome young man. “I know that it won’t be long until you successfully prove your Dao and break through, but… I’ll only give you three snaps of the fingers to think it over. Refuse, and you might well successfully overcome your tribulation, but all of your old friends will die.

“But if you agree, we’ll both have cause for celebration!” He looked around, then added, “Also, I dare say with certainty that no one else here can possibly help you.”

“Of course, I won’t force you,” he said with a calm laugh, as if he had this in the bag. It seemed he wasn’t the least bit afraid that Su Yi would refuse to beg him.

“To tell the truth, if you hadn’t made demands and had simply come to my aid, I might well have given you a chance to work with me out of consideration for the favor.” Su Yi’s voice emanated from within the bundle of light. “Unfortunately, you just had to go and try to loot a burning house.”

The handsome young man shook his head. “This is an exchange, so it’s naturally best that I openly and forthrightly state my terms. Oh, I forgot to say it earlier, but there’s nothing I trust less than so-called ‘promises’ and ‘favors.’”

He raised two fingers. “Just one snap of the fingers remains. Beg me, and I’ll save your friends. Refuse, and it’ll prove that your ‘friends’ aren’t that important to you after all.”

Luo Yao and the others’ expressions darkened. This guy’s trying to use Su Yi’s bonds to control him!

They knew that Su Yi valued his word and his friendships more than anything. How could he possibly just watch as his old friends died if it were possible to save them?

“Hah.” Su Yi sneered. It seemed he couldn’t be bothered to say anything more.

The handsome young man’s brow furrowed. What kind of attitude is that? He’s refusing to beg me?

“Very well. You’d better just hope for the best!” The handsome young man turned to leave. “Listen carefully: you had a chance to save your friends, but you missed it due to your own selfishness and stubbornness. If your friends die, it’ll be your fault!”

Su Yi disregarded him.

But it was then that a rusted sheath appeared out of nowhere in front of the handsome young man.

“Oh? You and your friends are in grave peril. Are you seriously arrogant enough to target me on top of all that?” the handsome young man chuckled, his gaze utterly derisive.

The way he saw it, Su Yi’s decision seemed stupid. He was like a barbarian who’d let his fury get the best of him.

“Arrogant? You’re no more than a wisp of soul. You might have come from the River of Destiny, but there’s nothing else special about you. Who are you to put on such airs?”

A calm, deep voice rang out, every word full of strange power that touched the heart directly.

Who is that!? The handsome young man’s eyes flashed, and he locked onto the rusted sheath.

Practically simultaneously, the Book of Legends suddenly flowed with black Dao Light. The pages flipped open, and countless mystical Dao Markings whooshed forth, bearing down on the rusted sheath.

The rusted sheath swept through the air, and the strange markings shattered, collapsed, and fell like rain.

And the inscrutable power emanating from the sheath smoothly suppressed the Book of Legends.

The handsome young man looked stricken. He poured his strength into the book, trying his utmost to fight off the sheath.

But much to his surprise, although the sheath looked like scrap metal, it was full of incomparably strange and terrifying power. It suppressed the Book of Legends so thoroughly that it could do nothing but quiver. The book couldn’t fight back at all!

The voice of the heart devil emanated from within the rusted sheath. “I’ll be taking that!”

Boom!

The sheath lit up, and an invisible hand seemed to take hold of the Book of Legends, pulling it toward the sheath’s interior.

“Shit!!” The handsome young man completely lost his cool. His voice boomed like spring thunder as he attacked with everything he had.

Boom!

Seemingly Eternal Laws floated around him, as resplendent as the light of a new day, and as sharp as the edge of a blade. His hands formed seals, and that terrifying power of the Laws bore down ruthlessly on the rusted sheath.

The entire stretch of sky was thrown into chaos. Firelight ran rampant.

In the end, the handsome young man seized the Book of Legends back, but the heart devil in the sheath didn’t leave empty handed. He seized the opportunity to tear out two pages and pull them into the sheath.

“An artifact spirit? An avatar of will? Just who are you!?” roared the handsome young man.

He was no longer as calm or composed as he’d been before. On the contrary, he was completely beside himself with fury.

The Book of Legends was a taboo treasure, as well as his ultimate trump card, yet now, the sheath had absorbed two of its pages. How could his heart not ache?

“Come closer, and I’ll tell you who I am!” said the heart devil, but just as he was about to continue his attack, the furious young man dashed off, his face ashen.

Angry as he was, he dared not linger.

“Petty. I only took two pages. Was that really worth fleeing in panic over?” The heart devil grumbled in obvious displeasure.

This little interlude passed quickly, but all who witnessed it were astonished.

First they were stunned by the young man’s mysteriousness and terrifying power. He wasn’t even afraid of the tribulations’ power!

Second, they were astonished that Su Yi’s rusted sheath was enough to send the young man packing!

This left countless outsider Celestial Demons shocked. They suddenly realized that, although Su Yi looked like he’d reached the end of his rope, he still had cards up his sleeves.

The rusted sheath was proof of that!

When Luo Yao and the others saw this, they lit up with delight. We might well get out of this!

Su Yi might not have been able to afford getting distracted mid-tribulation, but the rusted sheath would be enough to keep his mind-controlled old friends at bay!

Indeed, Luo Yao and the others had only just thought this when the sheath swept through the air. The eleven captives instantly vanished into thin air. No trace of them remained!

The rusted sword sheath flashed through the air and returned to Su Yi’s bundle of light.

Demon Emperor Chi Nie and the others watched it all, their hopes disintegrating into ash. Each had an unsightlier expression than the one before; it was as if they’d just lost their parents.

Seriously!? Even controlling the captives wasn’t enough to disrupt Su Yi’s tribulation!?

“Retreat! Even if Ol’ Man Heart Demon himself showed up, he wouldn’t be able to turn this around!” emanated the mysterious, ethereal voice within the Well of Turbulent Daos. “Leave now, and you’ll still have a chance to escape. If you wait until Su Yi successfully overcomes his tribulation, he’s sure to kill you all.”

Then, before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, the Well of Turbulent Daos vanished into the sky.

Retreat? Demon Emperor Chi Nie and the others exchanged glances, their hearts full of bitterness.

Over the years, they led an army and surrounded Dao-Seeking City. They’d thought that Su Yi’s arrival marked the end of their encirclement; it was finally time to close the net.

But now, they discovered that their arrangements and hidden cards had all proved useless in the face of unforeseen variables!

The arrival of the Tribulation of the Five Witherings had already thrown them off balance.

Then, Su Yi invited his Undying Realm Grand Tribulation. It was terrifying beyond imagination; it had even forced the Well of Turbulent Daos back!

Of course, the rusted sheath was a variable, too!

In other words, in Demon Emperor Chi Nie’s eyes, Su Yi was using these unexpected developments to turn the tides. If he hadn’t, he’d have died today beyond a doubt!

But the most detestable part was that their side had lost eight Demon Emperors, as well as a throng of other experts.

“Did His Excellency Ling Mi have any other instructions?” a Demon Emperor couldn’t help but ask.

Old Man Heart Devil, Ling Mi, had been behind today’s arrangements. Demon Emperor Chi Nie had simply been carrying out his orders.

“The trend is no longer in our favor. Let’s retreat.” Demon Emperor Chi Nie sighed. No matter how unwilling he was, he had no choice but to accept reality!

“Retreat!!”

A war horn echoed through the air, and the vast demon army receded like waters at low tide, vanishing over the horizon.

Demon Emperor Chi Nie and the others left too.

They left just in time to see Su Yi prove his Dao.

The tribulation light filling the sky came crashing down.

Countless droplets of light burst forth, like floodwaters breaking through a dam. All of them enveloped a figure standing tall beneath the dome of heaven.

He was none other than Su Yi. His body and soul had already undergone a thorough rebirth, and his powers of the Grand Dao had undergone a qualitative transformation.

He was now bathed in endless light, as radiant as the sun. The rays stretched for hundreds of thousands of feet, the sole source of light beneath the heavens!
