Chapter 2617: Not So Fast, Alien
Chapter 2617: Not So Fast, Alien
As soon as the Black Tortoise of the North died, its last way of defending the ones that worshipped it has kicked in. Even with its entire body skewered and practically lifeless, the energy that it had gathered inside of its shell exploded to continue the last spell it casted. An explosion of cold white energy blanketed the entire area that even Eldritch did not expect.
In just a split second, the entirety of Black City is covered in ice. Even the citadel behind the Black Tortoise of the North is covered in it but the ones inside were safely protected. One could say that they were barely protected as Grand Master Fu Xi had to use his draconic tongue to cast the most powerful protection elemental spell he could.
“The second batch! Hurry and escape because the bastard outside is still alive.” Levin Cloud stated as he could still feel the life force of Eldritch even though it was incredibly weak at the moment.
The people in the citadel were a bit scared of the large flowers that have teeth and could swallow them, but they had no choice. They cannot move anywhere else because they are now trapped in a frozen wasteland if they could exit citadel. The area around them have already been sealed off by the ice that is about ten meters thick.
“I can still regulate the temperature here. Where is my daughter?” Grand Master Fu Xi stated as he suddenly lost sight of Peridot.
“She was speaking with the guard captain of the Black Tortoise. She said that she needed to do something and scurried off somewhere.” Levin Cloud stated as even he was not told what she was going to do.
Outside where the entirety of Black City is covered in ice, Eldritch could be seen frozen in place despite being quite a distance away from the explosion. The Kami organization members that rushed towards the Black Tortoise of the North thinking that they could kill it have all been frozen to death. All living beings that were not protected by a powerful elemental barrier were frozen to death by one spell. A spell that could freeze the atoms in air and everything inside the body is that powerful even though it is applied to an area.
The frozen Eldritch could be seen to be motionless as his body is stuck inside a thick block of ice. Eldritch’ eyes then proceeded to move as if it was the first to have the layer of ice melted. His body then started to burn in heat that the ice melted from the inside with him as the heat source. When the ice melted about five inches around his body, two human hands suddenly pierced the alien looking body to destroy the ice around it.
“Uwagh!” Eldritch exclaimed as he used a spell to make the ice that trapped him to crumble.
A human form of Eldritch crawled out of the frozen alien body as this is his life saving skill that kicked in. This is a weakened version of Eldritch as the spell that the Black Tortoise of the North used actually pierced through the life saving skill effect. This is the first time that Eldritch experienced a spell that could actually overkill someone.
“In the end, I am still the winner.” Eldritch stated as he laughed and walked towards the large corpse of the Black Tortoise of the North.
Eldritch believed that only those that survive are the winners and anything goes as long as you are the last one standing. He believed that no one else had survived the spell as it was powerful enough to kill him twice if he did not instinctive protect himself. He is also in a state of weakness where he cannot sense the aura of others.
“Time to get the spoils and complete the bargain with that God of Mischief.” Eldritch stated.
“Ice Lotus!” A whisper in the wind stated which suddenly made Eldritch conjure up a barrier around him as he is suddenly surrounded by five blooming lotuses made of ice.
The five ice lotuses then exploded in an area with Eldritch at the very center. When the icy mist rolled out, Eldritch could be seen inside a barrier made of malevolent thorns. He then proceeded to command the thorns to destroy the ice surrounding them. As soon as he gained his vision of the outside, Eldritch’ face is brimming with anger as he wanted to see the fool that dared to attack him sneakily.
Eldritch did not find the one that attacked him, but he did spot a beautiful lady picking up something from the remains of the Black Tortoise of the North. Seeing someone blatantly stealing his spoils of war enraged Eldritch. He did not even care about decorum and started harassing the lady.
“Hey! You kleptomaniac hag! That is mine!” Eldritch shouted as he fired off malevolent thorns towards Peridot. The thorns beneath him suddenly tilted towards Peridot and fired off spikes in her direction with speed and precision.
“Disrespectful pig.” Peridot muttered as she crushed six elemental stones to create numerous Elemental Catastrophe Orbs.
One of the Elemental Catastrophe Orbs is generated in front of Peridot which blocked the malevolent thorn spikes that Eldritch fired off. The other nine were around Eldritch’ area and one is even directly on top of him. With Peridot’s command, all of the Elemental Catastrophe orbs exploded in unison which sent Eldritch flying as he was not ready for such quick spell casting.
Eldritch has never met a spell caster faster than him in using spells or creating them. This was the first time that he went against Peridot which cast spells by either sacrificing gems or using her draconic tongue. In essence, Peridot is faster than Eldritch but the latter packs more punch in the spells he uses. Which is why Eldritch is still alive despite having tasted Elemental Catastrophes in close proximity.
“That did not kill him!? Such a persistent bugger.” Peridot thought as she gathered what needs to be taken.
Since Peridot did not kill the Black Tortoise of the North directly, she could not just swipe her hand and gather the loot. She had to manually pick them all up and then proceed to place it inside her inventory which would take five seconds at the least. This is a way to give priority to the one who killed the boss should there be looters hovering around them.
One would think why would Peridot be here suddenly and the answer to that is what the guard of the Black Tortoise of the North told her. The guard captain of the Black Tortoise of the North is also its own Seer. She was the only one of the Seers under the Four Cardinal Divine Beasts that actually defied what is generally known about them being weak. The Seer of the Black Tortoise of the North wanted to help in battle, but her guardian deity already foreseen its death.
The Black Tortoise of the North does have abilities to see the deaths of all living beings as long as it is around bodies of water. It has also foreseen its own death at the hands of enemies wanting to take the relic that it is hiding from the world. A relic powerful enough to destroy boundaries between dimensions.
Eldritch was interested in the Essence Boundary but it was not powerful enough to even bring the god he has a contract with which is why he only cared about the item he gets from the deal with the God Loki. Even if it is an artifact that can bring higher dimensional beings to the real world, it can only be used when it is fully charged and even that is being generous. At most, it could bring a High God to the mortal realm without any problem, but it could also be used the other way around.
“Stealing broad!” Eldritch shouted as he slammed his staff onto the ground.
After slamming his staff onto the ground, hands made of grotesque tentacles, claws, and skin protruded and snaked their way towards Peridot. All of these are just ways to stop her from placing the artifact called the Essence Boundary inside of her inventory as Eldritch is already locked onto that. A divine artifact like that could not be easily handled by beings like Peridot as she has yet to achieve demigod status which Eldritch has already done.
Eldritch thought that Peridot would have no way to store the Essence Boundary, but she then pulled out a chest that glistened in black shells. In an instant, Eldritch’ assured mindset shattered as the Essence Boundary was sucked inside of that chest as if it was meant to be an item to store it. Blood rushed inside of Eldritch’ head as he suddenly used a lot of mana in an instant to cast one of his most powerful spells.
“Malevolent Throne!” Eldritch shouted as a magic circle conjured up below and created a throne made of bones, skin, tentacles, and organs all in one.
