Chapter 861: An Asset
Chapter 861: An Asset
[The Red Devil’s Mercenary Group – Haunted Grounds – The Valley of Torture]
“Fuck… Fuck… Fuck…”
The Dark Elf cursed as he flew ahead of a team of four.
A couple of hours ago, they were a capable team of seventeen mercenaries.
However, after crossing paths with Kent, not only was their team reduced to four, but they also found themselves in one of the most dangerous parts of the Valley of Torture.
“You three, hurry before it catches up to us,” the Dark Elf said, but his three teammates weren’t having a good time.
Of course, the Level 5 Spirit Lord that Adina fought with before the formation took them away held a cold look in his eyes and was determined to get close to the Dark Elf, not for any noble intentions.
He had warned his team about the dangers surrounding their mission, but none had listened.
The money allocated to the mission was so big that they lost their focus, and now, regardless of whether they lived or died, he knew they wouldn’t be able to return to being a team ever again.
Iver cursed his team leader in his heart but kept flying. Soon, the horror in the form of a bone dragon appeared in the distance, chasing after them.
Within a couple of seconds, it was upon them.
“We need to split up, or it will pick us all off in one go,” Iver shouted. However, none liked the idea.
Obviously, no one liked the idea of becoming the bait.
The moment they split up, the bone dragon would pick one of them and chase after them. That would give the rest of the team some time to create distance between themselves and the dragon.
It was a good strategy, but at least one would have to die for the three to live.
“I won’t be dying for this stupid mission. So I’ll be going my separate way.” Without hesitation, Iver dived to his left and separated himself from his teammates.
He didn’t even stop flying, knowing the only way out now was to get as far as he could from his team. Naturally, the moment Iver went his separate way, the Level 4 Spirit Lords also went their separate ways.
Thankfully, the dragon picked none of them; instead, it went after their leader, who was left to fend for himself against the Level 9 Spirit Lord Bone Dragon.
This couldn’t have been a better outcome. With his strength, he would keep the dragon occupied for a few minutes, allowing his team to get away.

[2,000 miles away from the Lightning Peak — Kent and Adina’s POV]
Kent and Adina had spent the last fourteen hours on the move, doing their best not to attract the attention of the beast lurking in the shadows.
With the tower aiding navigation, their movement was swift. However, they both knew it was only a matter of time before their luck ran out.
Even so, they were getting closer to their destination.
“Stop.” Kent came to a sudden halt when he sensed something.
He grabbed Adina’s hand and led her away, moving calmly through the forest. A few minutes later, they stopped again, and Kent took out his sword.
They started moving again, but this time even more cautiously. Slowly, they stood behind a large stone. Kent moved to the side and sneaked out of his head.
“Well, I’ll be damned.” A smile appeared on Kent’s face.
“What is it?” Adina asked, but to answer her question, Kent pulled her forward so she could see for herself.
“Is that—?”
“Yes. That is one of the guys who ambushed us. Looks like it’s time for some payback.” An evil smile appeared on Kent’s face.
“Are we going to kill him?” Adina asked, but Kent shook his head.
“In Financial Accounting, we call some things assets. This bastard is now an indispensable asset, at least for now. So I’m going to work my magic on him.”
“What is Financial Accounting?” Adina asked, catching Kent off guard.
He turned and looked at her with a smile on his face. “So that was your takeaway from all I said?”
“It will help me understand what we are about to do.” Adina looked serious, thinking that Financial Accounting had a much deeper meaning.
Kent kept smiling, knowing humans can be silly sometimes, naming everything mysterious to mess with students’ heads.
“Don’t worry about it. It has no mysterious meaning in what is about to happen.” Adina was reluctant, but she nodded. Kent smirked and turned back to Iver, who was wounded and bleeding on the ground.
He seemed not to have escaped the bone dragon unscathed.
’Tower, I want a rundown.’
⟦This person has a Tier 14 soul, so the master can’t use soul torture on him. However, there is an opening in his mind that I believe, with the right skillset, the master can get inside his mind and make him his bitch.⟧
“Wow, Tower, where did you learn that word from?” Kent smiled, hearing the tone the tower used.
⟦I grow and learn as the master grows.⟧
“Are you saying this is my fault?”
⟦The master is my teacher, so I can only follow the master’s teachings, even if he doesn’t know he was teaching me.⟧
“Tch.” Kent chuckled and turned to Adina.
“Wait here, I will be back in a few seconds.” Adina nodded and hid behind the stone while Kent blinked away.
Iver was bleeding from his chest and in so much pain that when Kent appeared behind him, he didn’t notice.
However, it was only for a moment before he noticed him. But by then, Kent was ready and gently tapped Iver’s forehead with his index finger.
His eyes rolled back, and then he froze.
“Now, why don’t we handle the main part?”
Kent activated his mind manipulation skill, and with no resistance whatsoever, he got inside Iver’s mind.
“Done.”
Kent took a Tier 8 healing pill, put it in Iver’s mouth, before taking out the small flying boat that Lady Enzi had given him. He activated it and tossed Iver in.
He picked Adina up, and soon, they were several miles away.
He didn’t want to stay at the place where Iver’s blood had already started drawing the beast in. So they moved away.
A few minutes after they left, a Level 7 Spirit Lord beast appeared, and soon more followed, but Kent and Adina were long gone, now in possession of an asset that couldn’t have come at a better time.

[The Cave Where Kent and Adina Stayed — The Wandering Swordsman]
The red-skinned demon swordsman had managed to find the battlefield where the short battle between Kent and the Red Devil mercenaries had taken place.
Using his advanced senses, he was able to track the direction Kent and Adina had gone after the battle, so he followed the trail to the mountain cave.
“Looks like there are two of them,” he muttered, entering the cave. However, just when he was being cocky, his senses picked up something, but things ended rather abruptly.
BOOM.
The mountain was reduced to nothing, and the Wandering Swordsman was sent flying several miles away, his body littered with injuries.
