Chapter 1199: New Discovery
Chapter 1199: New Discovery
Kathy looked at Klaus with a guilty smile. His question brought back a rather unpleasant memory of their first meeting.
“Oh my, so you did aim to kill me back then, but failed, huh?”
“In my defense, I was hired to do a job, and so I did. The attack was aimed at trapping you in the void long enough for you to lose your way back to the real world.
I have used it on 300 other targets, and they all died. You were the first to come back alive,” Kathy chuckled.
“I guess that was one of the reasons I started battling you when you came back. But hey, that is life, huh? We try to kill each other sometimes and later become friends.”
“Unbelievable. To think all my wives tried to kill me at one point in time,” Klaus smiled weakly…
“Hey, I never tried to kill you. I was your best friend, in case you’ve forgotten,” Hanna protested, and Klaus nodded.
“I know, Hanna, you were amazing.”
Vida scratched her head, feeling like the accusation was right up her alley… “Well, I never figuratively stated that I wanted to kill you. I merely asked for a duel simply because I was bored and you looked like a good sport.”
“I was an archer, Vida, a slim, bony archer who could only lift his bow. So, if you call 3 hours of breaking every bone in my body a duel, then fine… why not?”
Vida blushed.
She was also one of the few who managed to beat up a Paragon. She knew who Klaus was, but she never tried to kill him, or, as she said, she never figuratively tried to kill him.
However, had it not been for Klaus’ superior healing abilities, he would have died from getting his bones broken and shattered from the beating he received from the Barbarian Queen.
Looking at Vida now, the image of the towering Barbarian Queen, who had an affinity for Lightning, Fire, and Gravity, appeared in his mind, causing his body to shudder.
’Damn, I am still traumatized even after several eras.’
He shook off the feeling and turned to Kathy… “So, how many times can you use the Void Rune?”
“For now, if I manage my void essence well, I can use it two times to unleash attacks that can even kill Empyreans.
However, that will depend on how much focus I have at that moment. My understanding of the void is still shaky, so unless I go into seclusion and work on that, I cannot fully use it.
Of course, with my previous life’s understanding of the void, a few months in seclusion will have me back at my peak. Then I can only focus on raising my affinity level to make more room for my control of the void.”
“I see. In that case, we should hurry and figure out to what extent this place goes so that you can enter seclusion.”
Kathy nodded, and Klaus turned to Hanna and Vida, “How close are you two from reaching High Void Affinity?”
“I am left with 2% more to go,” Vida said, and Hanna nodded, “Same here.”
“Then we should hurry.”
Klaus absorbed the residual void fragments in the air, bringing his total to 362.
⟪Current Void Fragments: [362/399]⟫
’I am also almost at the Adept Affinity stage. I just need a few more kills.’ They headed deeper into the void region.
Right now, killing voidlings to level up their void laws is the plan. However, aside from that, he also has to reach the void vortex and use the void crystal to see what is hidden behind the layers.
He knew there must be something extremely important he needed to know, so he was given the crystal to handle it.
Of course, reaching the void vortex won’t be smooth. The number of wraiths between them and the vortex is staggering. However, as it happens, they are there to kill, so he can only smile and move deeper.
Soon, they spotted four Wraiths, and so the massacre resumed. The four died much faster than before. Hanna and Vida had yet to level up to High Affinity, so Klaus and Kathy allowed them to handle these ones.
After that kill, they met a couple more and handled them. Then, with the third batch of Wraiths killed, the two ladies reached the High Affinity level.
“How are we looking?” Klaus asked, seeing the two ladies appear happy.
“My Void Eyes are now much more powerful. I can see 4,000 miles in all directions. This is amazing,” Hanna said with a beaming smile as she looked around, spotting several Wraiths.
“I can even see one of the void vortexes… what in the hell—”
“What?” Klaus, Kathy, and Vida asked.
“I can see the void vortexes, but also dozens of Wraiths sitting around it. It is like they are cultivating around it.”
“Well, that is not something you see every day.” Klaus seemed taken aback by what Hanna had discovered.
Wraiths, cultivating?
That is not something logical. Wraiths are haunted spirits, not actual living beings, so they can’t do that…
However, Hanna could clearly see them doing just that.
This can only mean there is something about the void vortex that is causing this… “Can you describe the vortex?”
“It is like every other vortex, but made from red lightning. However, in a way, it is not pulling anything toward its center. It is just there, though very dangerous from my perspective.”
Klaus nodded.
He must see it himself to know what to make of it. However, for now, he can only rely on what Hanna saw to draw a conclusion.
“I believe there is a unique and more valuable energy in the void that is attracting them to it. Why don’t you look for something unique, like the energy coming from the void or the appearance of the Wraiths?”
Hanna nodded and paid more attention to the Void Vortex and the Wraiths. After a minute, she seemed to have spotted something from the way she furrowed her brow.
“It seems you are right, there is indeed something strange about the vortex. The void energy flowing from it is much denser, potent, and extremely pure.
It is perhaps making the Wraiths much more human-like and, well, very strong. I can sense they are much stronger than the ones we have faced so far. Some might even be a threat to us.”
Klaus nodded to her discovery, “This means we must get to the vortex quickly. If my deduction from what Hanna said is right, the true treasure in this place is not the Wraiths but the Vortex.”
“Are you saying by cultivating close to it, we wouldn’t have to kill to level up?” asked Vida. She seemed intrigued by this discovery.
“That is my deduction, yes. But we will have to get close to it to find out if I am right or wrong. Either way, we must get to it to find out what is happening.”
“Okay.”
Klaus nodded before finally finding out what had happened to Vida after she reached High Affinity Level.
To answer his question, she made a fist and punched the air, producing a powerful sonic boom that sent a shockwave several miles away.
A large crater formed on the ground, and even after the attack ended, the void seemed unstable.
“My [Void Fist] has unlocked a new ability called [Unstable Fist]. When used, the space around wherever the punch passes will become unstable for a minute.
This will cause the enemy to become trapped in their surroundings even if they manage to defend against it.”
“Damn,” Klaus grinned. His wives had grown stronger, so he, too, must grow strong.
“Hanna, lead the way.”
